I'd hardcore take the Elk Discouragement Ray. Ever been to the Garden of the Gods, anyone? Show up there in late September, the elks are all in rut. You hear them trumpeting horribly all over the place, and the males will walk right around you, erm, "loaded for bear", if you catch my drift. I mean, you think the horns on their heads are menacing...
