Panfan's Weekly Music Poll 1: British Invasion

As much as I love the Beatles, I was raised on the Stones, so I have to go with them.

My order:

1. The Rolling Stones
2. The Beatles
3. The Who
4. Cream
5. Deep Purple
6. Manfred Mann
7. The Zombies
8. The Hollies
9. The Troggs

Can't stand the Beatles. Most of the others are all right, and I think Cream is great, but the Stones pretty much automatically win.

No Kinks?

No, seriously. You can't forget the Kinks. They were easily the most British of the British Invasion bands. The Kinks laid down the groundwork for the British punk scene in the late 70's/early 80's and the Britpop scene of the 90's. The Kinks laid your mother, too. Without the Kinks there would be no Buzzcocks, no Blur, no Supergrass, no Clash, no Lightning Seeds, no Stone Roses, no Pulp, etc. (If you don't know the bands I'm talking about, you should learn.)

And where the **** is Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich?

For those of you not "in the know," you can learn the same way I did via YouTube:

I almost put Oasis, but they weren't really that Kinks-influenced. Also, the bands I put that were influenced by the Kinks aren't technically "British Invasion" bands, since that label refers to the bands from Britain mostly in the 60's that hit it big in America, although most of them could fit into the less-impacting "Second British Invasion" of the 90's.

In all honesty... and you can shoot me for this if you'd like... I've never been that fond of the Stones.

^ The second British Invasion was technically in the 70's and 80's with the punk movement and New Wave.

^ True. "Third British Invasion." 'Twas a bit of a failure, though, except for "Wonderwall."

Yeah, the only band that obtained mega-popularity in the "third British Invasion" were the Spice Girls.

Beatles all the way. Probably my favorite band ever.

Though the rest of those are all awesome, especially the Zombies. and the Who.
