I'll go with the unpopular opinion and pick Poirot. I prefer his character to that of Holmes, in that Poirot is entirely obsessive compulsive and seems to be so completely bizarre in appearance that nobody takes him seriously. Although, I still have the utmost respect for Arthur Conan Doyle's masterpiece Holmes; I just feel that Christie had a better grip on the twist ending. I'd take "Orient Express" or "Roger Ackroyd" over "Study in Scarlet" anyday, although it may just be because "Scarlet" is less a mystery novel and more an introduction to Holmes. So, who do you, the reader, prefer? |

If that book is any indication, I'd have to go with Poirot. |

I've also read a slew of short stories and novels starring the likes of Peter Whimsey, Nero Wolfe, and various assorted omniscient detectives created for the purpose of weaving a believable murder, and none were as likable as the Belgian and his little grey cells. As such, I consider Poirot my favorite of all detectives, not just of the two here. |
