Favorite beat 'em up?

We've already talked about the best fighting game, but what about the games that combine the average fighter with sidescrolling levels?

My favorites are TMNT: Turtles in Time, The Simpsons Arcade Game, Battletoads, and River City Ransom.

It's pretty hard to argue against Ninja Gaiden I or II for the NES.

That's more of a platformer, but I'm no genre nazi. The original arcade version of Ninja Gaiden/Shadow Warriors was actually a full-fledged brawler/beatemup game. Also, if you ever get the chance to play it, there was an entirely original Ninja Gaiden game released for the Sega Master System. It was done in the same style as the NES games, only with improved graphics. I'm very happy to own a copy.

My favorite? Double Dragon II, without a doubt. Close contendors are the 6-player X-Men arcade game(so epic), and the first TMNT arcade game.

Man, that X-Men game was ridiculous, meaning both "ridiculously fun" and "ridiculous that you burn HP to use powers."

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I saw that 6-player Xmen game a few times, but never took the time to play it. :/

It's a classic. I've got the ROM with MAME, but it's not quite as awesome as playing with 3 or more to kick the crap out of a cabinet.
