Lightbulb What's your favorite heroic features?

Or more aptly, who is your favorite "hero" and why? What characteristics or qualities do you find most admirable/attractive in them?

Please keep in mind that I have a few ideas for projects floating around and I want to make sure I can create lead characters that people can identify with - your input is invaluable.

He's gotta be bad, he's gotta be bold
He's gotta be wiser, he's gotta be hard
He's gotta be tough, he's gotta be stronger
He's gotta be cool, he's gotta be calm

Arrow This dude is actually one of my main role models.

It is V. Of V for Vendetta. I am amazed and impressed by his mixture of intellectualism and madness.

I mean, my favorite hero is Green Lantern, because his powers rock.

Make them real, have an actual personality. Don't make them wish fulfilment devices.

Silver Surfer was pretty cool, but he didn't have much of a personality.

Exactly. That's why Spider-Man's such a great character. He's always been plagued with problems in his life as Peter Parker (money, bullying, finding a job) and doesn't always win his battles when in costume.

I always thought Ryu from the street fighter series was admirable in a way. It sounds so simple, but how many people can honestly say they've devoted most of their life to doing something they love and that inspires them. Plus, he does it merely for the sake of getting better...usually when people see or hear the word "hero" they think of what that person does for others (which is valid of course), but sometimes being yourself is the hardest thing to do.

But to actually answer the topic, humility and patience.

Thanks for being especially descriptive, SML. Same to you, Furball.

It's definitely a good idea to consider humility and humanity. Especially reading the older Spiderman comics, and you can see that he is somewhat torn between wanting to use his abilities to help others and wanting to fulfill his desire for revenge against those who wrong him.

Does Doctor Who count as a super hero?

More generally, I've always liked heroes who reveal to humanity their own potential for good.

Its funny this topic appeared when it did, i have to write an essay about someone heroic and some of their heroic actions.

The person i choose was ghandi though, not a superhero, although spiderman really would have been my second choice.

E: ryu would have been a good choice too. if you set aside the fact that his story is hardly 2 pages long, let alone 50 notecards worth. but hes a cool dude tho

we have to explain why the actions are heroic of course. same thing. a better retort would be "AI wanted superhero-esque, not a spirtiual leader who promoted nonviolence." nonviolence isn't a very good feature for a superhero

Since "Hero" to me means "Main Character", or even personal hero, my hero is Gregory House for being completely maverick and doing his job better than anyone else, regardless of doubters.

But since this is about Superheroes, and their features, I find that I personally enjoy, as Karg said, humanity in a hero, and flaws that one can relate to. Nobody is perfect, and to make a character perfect is to run away from reality in ever way.
