The plot is what holds the game together, the graphics make sure you know which character is what. In character Building, the more you talk to a un-playable, you "advance into their story even farther". Kinda like GTA or the Sims. However, I feel re-play value is what I would want to go for. When I'm playing a game, I personally look for some door, or something that can easily be missed. If I beat the game, and reflect back to what I may have missed, I wanna play again. That's really what make games so popular: You get into the game, you beat it, you feel like you missed something and play again, and lo and behold, you did miss something. I beleive that's what made GTA so cool and popular. Maybe even Paper Mario series can credit it's success towards re-play value. Well, what do you think, puny mortals? I take a guess on how the story is going to be based on what I can find out from the description and reviews. 2. Nope. So long as I can tell what I'm doing graphics are just a nice add-on. 3. Yep. Especially KotoR type. 4. That's hard to judge when you first buy a game. Not something I spend much time thinking about. 5. I look for it not to be there. I don't have a problem if it doesn't go past a few splatters here and there when you get shot, but I don't play games that have blood and gore simply for the sake of having blood and gore. 6. No. I miss out on too much of I take genre before concept. Especially considering that a majority of my favorite games fit into multiple genres, some of which I don't like on their own. Portal, Mirror's Edge, and FFXI:RW are probably the best examples of that. It also flips the other way. I like most RPGs, but dungeon crawlers are a major exception. Other things I use: 1. Reviews. Kind of self-explanatory. There have been multiple instances of me wanting a game up until it got 5/10. 2. Price. Rock Band is great and all, but I'm not paying $80+ for a game. Especially when the system it was for only cost $250. 3. Length. This is very rarely a deciding factor, but I prefer >30-40 hour games. (FFTA2, Skies of Arcadia, etc) I'll still buy shorter games, but I buy longer ones first. And some other things that are even less of a factor than length. System, size, etc. |

I also have a preference for Asian games. |

A game's gotta interest me first, and a good way to do it is have a great plot. Gameplay has to go hand-in-hand, though, because if I want a good plot but terrible gameplay, I'd rather read a book. 2: The graphics: Don't care. Good graphics are nice, but superfluous. 3: Character Building (Think of the sims.):Character development, yes. Building, not so much. 4: Re-play value: Of course. Playing a game once and then never touching it again makes me feel like I'm dumping a girlfriend. 5: Blood content: Don't care. 6: The genre: As long as I enjoy playing the game, I don't care what genre it is. |

It's more integral than graphics in that regard, though, since it's easier for a soundtrack to hinder a game. |

It really gives you something to think about while playing. 2. Graphics aren't very important to me. But obviously, if I'm playing a racing game or FPS, then I don't want some cheesy Mode 7 tiles determining my area. 3. You mean, like being able to customise a character or create your own? Well, it's a pretty good add-on, but not usually a deciding factor. 4. I like games with replay value, because you're less likely to get bored in a week and go buy a new game. I love games where the replay value is the only way to get the full experience of the game, where every reset is a new adventure. That being said, games like Maniac Mansion or Shadow the Hedgehog are very good for me. 5. Certainly, genre. I'm much more likely to buy a platformer or RPG than I would a sports game. 6. Blood content has absolutely no effect on the types of games I would buy. |

The only element you basically need is Gameplay, and even that can be chopped down to a certain level if the game makes games-are-art fag hippies like me weep (see cyrostasis, penumbra, anything by suda 51) although you can make a game have good gameplay AND make art hippies weep and thats even better so |

As far as I know, the only games that were made bloody for the sake of being bloody were Mortal Kombat knockoffs (Kasumi Ninja, Bloodstorm, Time Killers, etc.). |

I think that holistically, a game should incorporate things like strong plot, gameplay, and character-development; I am a sucker for that stuff. Re-play value is important too. |

As long as the art work looks good then I don't care. 3: Character Building isn't too important, but it's better to have it. 4: Re-play value is very important. Games are expensive stuff. The more time you spend playing it the better cost effectiveness it is. 5: Blood content is in no way important. Although too much can be too much. 6: The genre is important. I don't think you'll ever see me buy a sports sim other that Skating and Wrestling. I think the last Shooter I got was Metal Gear 4 (That's if you class it as a shooter) Things you missed from the list. 7. Cast is important. If the people in the story aren't interesting then the game isnt interesting 8. Gameplay is a very important factor too. |

It freaking introduced juggling to the fighting game genre. |
