VGF needs more bandwidth.

I've seen the servers get shut down at multiple times the past couple of months. You might not know it but VGF does get some heavy traffic. (The servers just got shut down for a few hours just now)

Is there a way I can donate bandwidth from my domain which I don't currently use right now? (I still have 6 months on the subscription)

Once upon a time, bandwidth was critical, but in this day and age, we have more bandwidth than we'll ever use. It's just system resources. We got hit hard when Guitar Hero III was released and when Survivor: China ended, and so any event like that I would expect some problems. For the most part, though, our current setup is enough to handle the traffic, but from time to time, the server gets hit by an unexpected resource spike. I expect to have to upgrade the server again later in the year, but it should be good for now.

If VGF needed bandwidth that badly, you wouldn't be able to post this thread.

You'd be staring at 'Bandwidth exceeded' notices instead.

Not more bandwidth, just a wider band. Maybe add some horn players or something.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

We should switch over to MediaWiki instead.

I don't see why it's so horrible.

Well, I can agree that VBulliten sucks, mainly it looks bad, but like hell is Shane going to go through the work needed to, say, convert it to Invision Power Board because me and WvW said so. Especially so when you get me and WvW saying it.

Of course, all message boards are flawed, so it'd be silly to get too upset about any one board's flaws. Unless it was, like, really outdated and messed up.

2.0?

I've tried a bunch of other board systems. UBB's pretty good but ancient, and the PHP-based alternatives to vB are terrifyingly bad. We're talking two hours to figure out how the heck to change the colors bad.

^That's pretty bad. Well the thing that gets me is that we switched over to this and in turn lost a lot of fun features. (who didn't love collecting and saving their points to be on the top 50?)

vBplaza had to be disabled anyway because it was no longer supported. However, I do plan to upgrade to vBplaza 2.0 as soon as vB 3.7 is available.

My message board of choice is Invision Power Board, but the problem is it costs too much to run anyway.

Of course, I liked the ancient UBB the best, and maybe the new UBB too, I dunno.

VBPlaza stuff is sort of a bummer. Most of its features annoyed me, but the lack of an automated name changer can get problematic.
