| Don't ban me please. :( | autism.... my little brother has High Functioning Autism and despite his minor setbacks with his social skills...i noticed that he is very much like everyone else...maybe better. He's always smiling about certain things and loves to go to the beach, eat ice cream, and pretty much everything else that kids his age like to do. It just upsets me how some people treat him when he tries to make new friends because they become scared of him...or annoyed. He's smart, keeps asking questions, and picks up new things relatively fast. He is kind of like a kid at heart though in that he likes things with silly sounds or funny twists....he's very affectionate to animals too and i noticed that the animals themselves notice his disability and calm themselves down to a point where they actually comfort my little brother! When i noticed that, it was amazing! For example, my neighbor has this old cranky cat who usually tries to bat and scratch people away or hiss at them. My little brother went by and started playing with the cat, petting her and rubbing her stomach. Instead of the cat normally being angry and hissing and scratching, it was purring and exposing herself to my little brother! It was amazing! |

| Marshmallow Knight ☆ Supermod | Sounds like Asperger Syndrome. Basically all the benefits of being a normal guy, except without the social skills. I think not a lot of people know that there's a spectrum for autism, from high to low level. I was tempted to diagnose myself with Aspergers, but I'm probably just a normal recluse. |

Honestly, it's not hard to get around when you get used to it. People with Aspergers can sometimes end up being nicer than most others. |

That is wrong, MR and Autisim are different, when you are Mentally retarded you cant learn anything in your life, when your autistic you can learn but it will be harder because of your disability in your brain. I know this because i do volentary work with autistic kids. |

First off I have nothing against someone with this disorder. Despite this, I myself do not feel inclined to go out of my way to accomodate someone with Austism. For example, if I'm with a group of friends, I will still find an annoying austistic peer annoying. Adding to this, if one would disrupt my education regularly because of the disease, I would expect them to be removed from it. |

I can match a lot of the things I do/how I act to some of the symptoms on the pages; when studying some things I tend to keep looking up information about it until I get bored, I have a couple of obsessive-compulsive habits, and... suck at talking to people and making friends. Main thing on that that I don't have on those articles is being oversensitive to sound and such. But I'm sure there might be a few other things I'm missing. |
