When you first got into gaming (assuming it was back then) what crazy things did you do that you now consider foolish or embarrassing? I'll begin... I hooked up my NES, pushed in that wonderful Mario cartridge and turned it all on. I watched in pure delight as the opening screen rolled on past and sat enthralled as a little man stood there. I pressed a button and he moved!! Whee... AWESOME... then he ran full pelt into a goomba. I could have kicked myself if I weren't laughing so much at the inanity of it all. ![]() |

Whereas the fastest I've ever completed it in was three days. ![]() |

This isn't from back when I first started gaming, but I'm slightly embarassed it took me two tries to beat Super Mario Land. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there! |

Anyhow, I made it all the way up to the Bowser fight like this, and, when he killed me for the third or fourth time, I threw my controller down in disgust...and it hit the 'RESET' button. My inward scream of horror was quite prolonged (though it never manifested itself audibly). On the plus side, I haven't thrown a controller since. |

I wanted to save to File 2, but the cursor was on File 1. Unaware, even after it asked for my confirmation, I saved over File 1 and lost weeks upon weeks of work. It wasn't so much embarrasing as it was infuriating, though. |

Anyway, I wanted to try and get a hitmontop and, not realising that you could breed monsters with ditto, decided to restart the game. I never got that many monsters back and gave up eventually. |

I never even came close until I was 10 years old, but to this day the farthest I ever got was world 6-1 ![]() |

Being serious: I fell over when I played F-Zero 64 when I leaned over I laughed outy loud when I saw Bebedora & then fell over when I realized I had no idea what she was talking about I saw my lil bro make Link make out w/ a wall on the SNES Said "SMOKE YOU!" to Iris after she killed me for the umteenth time Sang "I feel pretty" for some strange reason while playing Quake 4 I'll tell you more later |

I was so pissed I banged my head against the couch. (I was only three or four. Sue me). I used to think Koopa Troopas were ducks. The NES sprites kinda made them look that way, heh. A final SMB moment is I could never figure out the crappy fourth and seventh castles. And also the fact that I always was afraid of using the Warp Zone in 1-2 because I was afraid I would be sucked into the Minus World. I STILL can't get past the third world in Double Dragon NES. That game was hellofa fun. Gauntlet II: I used to have no clue how this game worked. My friend always made me play it when he came over. I couldn't beat Bowser at the end of SMB3 until...last...year. How embarassing is that, considering I played it since it first came out? In Zelda: LttP, I was fighting the Helmesaur King, and it took me about three years to beat it. I frequently had dreams that that was only a decoy, and a "Secret Helmesaur King" existed. Final Fantasy VI: Take a guess at how many times it took to beat Stormy. -CSM |

I couldn't even make my character talk to people, my cousin had to tell me how to make the pokemon attack! I was 5 at the time. |

Gender: Posts: 243 Thanks: 6 Thanked 4 Times in 4 Posts | I still don't know how to get into the Minus World in SMB. I even have a guide book from way back when, but either the directions stink or my skillz are lacking. I'd say it's the directions. In this game--was it called Caveman? Something like that--on the NES, there was a part where I'd get up to the part where I'm supposed to fight the pterodactyl and freak out. One time, I think I just shut it off when I got there. I was probably 6, but still--I never realized how much of a wuss I was when I was little till now. ^_^;; |

(I can't believe I forgot that!!) So imagine my horror at finding Link being hugged to death. O_O Not only did I scream, but I had a couple of nightmares in the following weeks. And to this day, certain members of my family like to freak me out with Redead sounds. ![]() |
