Angry Obligatory New Retro Forum Topic

I haven't been playing too many "retro" games lately. They're all pretty awesome, though.

Well, I suppose SSB is somewhat retro now. It's hard to imagine a game that was released for a system which was entirely targeted as a 3D platform as being retro. Well, unless you're talking stereoscopic 3D, ala Virtual Boy. Speaking of which, my brother's VB isn't really working right anymore. Despite what people would like to say about the system, it was pretty unique and is still really fun to mess around with. Are you getting all of this down?

Mostly, I'm not too concerned about discussion in here. Don't hesitate to post, though. Any sort of retro-related conversation is welcome here, be it about your unrequited love for Rampage's Lizzy - or who you think kicks more ass; Lolo or Kwirk.

Obviously, Lolo kicks more ass. But that is a topic for another day.

Me and my Sister started up our annual 2p DKC game this summer. We decided to play DKC3 this time, though I would have preferred 2. Every summer I'm reminded of what an awesome system the SNES is.

I was just playing DKC2 with SD recently. She was traumatised by DK Land when she was very young, so it's hard to get her to open up to the series. The pirates are worth it, though. Whoever had the idea to make a pirate-themed DKC deserves a high-five.

...Whoever had the idea to make a Canada-themed DKC should be shot.

Despite "The world being taken over by Smokey the Bear" in between DKCs 2 and 3, I still love that game. 1 and 2 are still better, but 3 is fun.

So do you just not like 3, AI, or are you like me?

Well, I just didn't like any of the concepts from the get-go. Donkey Kong, the game's namesake, is nowhere to be found - the graphics are lower quality than the previous two games - and the gameplay is more of a trial-and-error variety. I just don't think it's up to scratch. I haven't had a full play-through, which has the potential to make me appreciate it more, but I'd really have to get an SNES cart to bother with it. I'll be getting a cart of Diddy's Kong Quest long before I waste any money on a game I've already got a negative opinion of.

In the meantime, it's not particularily retro, but SD, Crav, and I were just playing some serious Crystal Chronicles. Plenty of people claim to hate that game, but they just don't seem to appreciate its unique character. I'm very excited about the sequels that are in the works.

Of course it did. It's irristably eye-catching. Also, my anger knows no bounds.

^^^^Anything that slightly resembles "Secret of mana" (Free movement RPG) gets an OK in my book, unless it proves to be lousy.

Our local Hobbygame store acquired an old SNK Arcade System.

Since then I have noticed a strange disappearance of all the quarters from my pockets.
If anyone asks, I blame Cham-Cham and Charlotte.
