Everything nowadays is about good graphics and good music. There are always a million different controls and side-quests to dick around with. Often time (but certainly not always) this is done with the sacrifice of good storyline or gameplay. But man, remember the good old days when a game didn't need to have super-realistic movement, smooth graphics, blazing music and sound effects to be great? What about the good ol' games, with their primitive 2D graphics, scratchy music, and simple gameplay? What about Super Mario Bros.? Still one of the greatest games of all time. What I'm trying to say is... just crawl back into your closet, dig out that dusty old NES or Gameboy or whatever and play it for nostalgia's sake. Ahh... it's just such an intense feeling. Y'know? |

Games can have a good balance of storyline and sidequests. (see: Zelda, Tales of games, Paper Mario games) |

My Genesis doesn't work, my Dreamcast doesn't have any cords anymore, I don't know where batteries are for my old Game Boy, and I need the N64 cords for my Gamecube, which is at my church. ![]() |

A lot of these newer ones seem like they're just pure marketing. Still, you just have to remember that for however many good NES games there might have been, there were 700 horrible ones to follow. Every system is remembered for its hits. |

The Intellivision, sadly, is nothing more than a bulky paper-weight these days. I don't mind people talking about other systems, but you should keep in mind that this is the Retro Nintendo forum, so it's much less likely to come up. Also, pretty much everyone at this site is too young to have had much to do with any first or second gen systems. |

My first console was a Magnavox Odyssey2, the lesser-known superior alternative to your Ataris and Colecovisions. My favourite game was one 'KC Munchkin!', a Pac-man rip-off (different from the original in that the pellets would move around, speeding up as you ate more and more of them, until there'd be only one left, moving nearly as fast as you, and you'd still be trying to dodge the ghosts and all as you chased after it. Awesome. It also had one of the earliest level editors in the history of ever.) |

"Yeah. I was, what, fourteen?" "I miss games like that. I mean, even without the virtual reality helmets, those games with just simple motion-sensing controllers have a kind of old zing about them." "Yep... good times..." |
