Retro Rating

Whip out your old systems and start playing the first game you see! Then, your going to rate it based on plot, gameplay, music, characters, and fun. I'll start with an old favorite of mine:

PLOT: Twenty years ago today, a meteor crashed by the Edison mansion. Dr. Fred, the owner of the mansion, took it in to run some studies, but the meteor soon took control of the house. Present day, Dr. Fred kidnaps Sandy, a high school cheerleader, an plans to remove her brains. Sandy's boyfriend, Dave, and his friends go in the mansion to rescue her. At first, it seems like a horror game (especially if you walk into the kitchen :O), but it's actually a parody of a B-Grade horror movie. The plot gets an 8/10.
GAMEPLAY: The original PC version used a mouse, thus making the point-and-click aspect of the SCUMM engine easier. However, you can still manuver the arrow quite well with the NES controller. I give it a 6/10.
MUSIC The soundtrack is incredible. Every kid has their own song, and the addition of the theme song, the Edison music (Better Ed Than Dead), and other songs unlockable with gameplay. There is a song for about every genre, from punk to classical, from hip-hop to surf, from rock to muzak. The songs are all catchy, even if you don't like the particular genre. Music gets a definite 10/10, especially Syd's theme.
CHARACTERS: The kids you can play as are: Dave (the jock), Razor (the punk rocker), Bernard (the tech geek), Syd (the musician wannabe), Wendy (the writer), Jeff (the surfer), and Micheal (the photographer). The mansion inhabitants include: Dr. Fred (the figurehead you almost never see), Nurse Edna (the Edison wife, the hardest one to avoid), Weird Ed (Fred and Edna's son. He's perhaps the only sane one), Green Tentacle (a depressed tentacle dreaming of starting a band), Purple Tentacle (Dr. Fred's clueless assistant), and Chuck the Plant. Other people include: Sandy (the cheerleader), Mark Eteer (the marketeer), Wink Smiley (talk show host), and the Meteor Police. The characters are all very unique and get a 9/10.
FUN: The game is very fun, because of it's open-endedness. You could actually spend years playing it and not know every ending (like my mom). The fun gets a 10/10.

BOTTOM LINE: If you like games that exercise your wit, this is a definite must. Overall, the game gets a 43/50.

Plot: I don't know it very well, I never got past level one. I think there were some missing children or something. 0/10
Gameplay: Terrible, you only get one power per level, and with stuff like superpunch, you can only use it once, I believe. 0/10
Music: Annoying loop of s**t. 0/10
Characters: There's Superman... and a bunch of generic enemies. Except this time, Superman is a p***y and the enemies are much stronger than you. 0/10
Fun: It's not fun when you're Superman and everybody else is stronger than you or hard to kill and can easily kill you. 0/10

Overall: Why did you make me do this, DZ? 0/10.

Plot:
The Enterprise is on routine patrol, when Spock picks up a radiation surge. A worm hole/space vortex thing opens up and sucks the Enterprise in, and deposits it in uncharted space. You spend the game trying to find a way to get back to Federation space, along the way visiting some planets from the TV show. A lot of the game is solving puzzles, and taking items to the right people to get what you want, but halfway through the game there is a battle with a Romulan ship.

7/10 (Not a very original plot for Star Trek)

Gameplay:
The controls are good for the NES's time (based on my other games), you can you use the phaser, tricorder, and different items you can find. The levels are well designed, and aren’t just the same layout with different colors. And the space battle is pretty cool.

8/10

Music:

They redid the Origanal theme well using what they had.The background music is pretty good, but if you stay in a level too long you can tell it's looped.

7/10

CHARACTERS: (Read under Star Trek: The original Series)

10/10

Fun: It's was pretty fun, took me a couple days to beat (mostly because I lost the passwords the first day.) Oh yeah, and there's is an alternate ending if you lose the space battle, the Romulans laugh at you and fly off, a Federation ship comes into view, and this admiral yells at you for losing.

9/10

Overall: Awesome!!!

10/10(mind you this is a biased Trekkie's opinion)

BOTTOM LINE: If you like Star Trek, Videos games, or both this a game for you. (you could get a more recent game)

51/60

Plot: "A long time ago, there were 8 forces that ruled the world. But one by one, each of these kings died. The last remaining king, Balma, was an evil force. He brought back the kings, but as zombies. The zombie kings were now reshaping the world in his image. The townsfolk of Elkwood hired Darryl the zombie hunter to destroy the evil yet once beloved kings." Awesome. 9/10.
Gameplay: It plays like a mix of Megaman and ZeldaII. You beat through 3 levels per world, the last level containing a boss. It's not too easy, but not too difficult either. 9/10.
Music: Well, it's nothing like Sonic, but it's pretty catchy. 8/10.
Characters: There's all of the zombie kings, Darryl, and Balma. Not a bad cast. 7/10.
Fun: This is the kind of game you could play over and over again and never get bored. It takes a few hours to beat through the game, which is good, because the time it takes to finish is one of the key parts of a game. 10/10.

Bottom Line:One of the better platformers for the NES/GB. Yet again, the score comes out to 43/50.

Does anyone else notice this is an extremely broken scoring system? Music, characters and plot should not be worth as much as gameplay. (which is really not that different from fun, anyway)

Plot: Spongebob finds a mysterious oven-based statue in Jellyfish Fields. When he goes to ask Mr. Krabs about it, he says that it leads to the location of the Lost Spatula, and that whoever wields it will be incredibly rich the greatest fry-cook in the land. So Spongebob sets off to find the 4 oven knobs that open the statue. Kinda cheesy, if you ask me. 6/10.
Gameplay: It's a bit odd, because you press 'B' to jump and 'A' to attack. Your main attack is a bubble wand, but you can unlock a net, spring shoes, net launcher, and even sunglasses to aid you on your mission. 8/10.
Graphics: Not horrible. Pretty good for a GBC game. 8/10.
Music: Some of the best ever. It's right up there with Sonic and Megaman. 10/10.
Characters: Spongebob Squarepants encyclopedia topics | Reference.com. 7/10.
Fun: Very fun, and suprisingly difficult. However, skilled gamers could beat the game in a mere 3 hours. Still, though, it's quite a developed game. 8/10.

Bottom Line: The only Nickelodeon game that's worth playing, and a very good title by itself. 47/60.

*bumps*

Plot:
As far as I can figure it's BLAST THE ALEINS!!!(I don't have the booklet)

Gameplay:
You're in a ship continuously going to the right, you can move back and forth a little and you can go up and down as long as you don't hit something. The A button fires your gun/laser thing, and B is to activate power-ups. The power-ups are pretty awesome, you can get up to 2 little fireballs that follow you and shoot when you shoot, and you can get a forcefeild that protects your ship for a certain amont of hits.

Graphics:
The graphics are pretty good(compared to other games of the time). They shaded the backgrounds nicely. Some on the enemy ships look really good.

Music:
The music is pretty repetitive, but it sounds good that way, and you don’t hear it half the time because of weapons fire and explosions.

Characters:
What characters?

Fun:
It's super hard, a bazillion enemy ships come flying strait at you, either shooting at you, crashing into you, or both, not to mention the turrets and obstacles. Just getting to the end of the first level takes forever, and then you can't save. that being said it is also super fun and addictive, I just wish two player mode was not take turns playing, and you could both play at once.

BOTTOM LINE: A great shoot'em up game.
