Thumbs up So after playing Mega Man 9

I am driven to play through the rest of the original Mega Man series under my ownership (Mega Man 1-6, Mega Man & Bass).

Started Mega Man 1 last night, but had to shut it off for sleep. Really miss the code system in that one. I don't think I'd managed to lose any lives aside from maybe one to a boss, until that cheap platforming-ontop-the-enemies-trying-to-kill-you part of Ice Man's level, where the platforms themselves both fire at you constantly and follow a random pattern. In addition to that hiccup, I encountered a glitch while fighting Guts Man that caused me, just as I defeated him, to be forced back into the hallway before the boss battle. I had to battle the bastard again. At least he dies fast if you know what you're doing. It's interesting to note how easy the bosses are to battle up until Elec. Man - Cut Man even has knockback from the regular arm cannon bullets.

There is definitely a decrease in difficulty as the series goes on (until 9 I guess; haven't played it yet). I remember Elec Man being ridiculously hard; you can't really exploit his weakness, since it's Gutsman's throwing-large-blocks attack.

I still think 3 was the most difficult.

I thought Megaman 8 was harder but I didn't have a turbo-controller so....

No, there's just blocks in his room to convince you that's his weakness. His weakness is the power you get from Cut Man.

^No way, Ice Man's level was awesome.

Ice Man as a boss, however....

I found Megaman 1 incredibly easy.

Copy-Megaman got on my nerves a little bit, but that's it.

The only Megaman I've never been able to beat is Megaman 7, the final form of Wily.

You know, I've never been too much of a Mega Man person.

I have MM3 on my cell, though. Yay me.

I love Mega Man 9, even though I'm not that good at it.

So I'm up to the Dr. Cossack's castle, final level in MM4, so far. More playing will continue today. Mega Man 3: Damn that's some cheapness in level design.

I have to say, the guys responsible for Mega Man 9 who said they were trying to create the "best graphics possible on an 8-bit system" must not have been paying attention to the earlier games in their series. Mega Man 3 and 4 far outclass MM9's art direction in a lot of places. That's not to say it's ugly by any means, it's about on par with MM2, albeit no levels that are absolutely awesome looking like, say, Metal Man's stage. That level was just badassed in design.

MM7 and MM&B are the two Mega Man games I beat most. I can beat Wily in those two games in one run. He's easy.

I love the whole Mega Man Series, though I've never beaten 5 or 6. I should really do that sometime.

The difficulty went down by quite a bit as soon as 7 came out, though. Don't get me wrong, I love 7, but that game is a little too easy.

It's a screen-space issue. They thought that because they could make sprites massive, then they should. Since it was before the time they could really resize the screen depending on the situation, it was a big issue that made the overall formula just much less effective. It's funny in a way that the spirit carried on in Mega Man X, since that was supposed to be a different series. It's a shame the X series became so pointlessly convoluted and repetitive, because it started out fantastic.

Mega Man 8 certainly had its difficult moments, in my memory. I own Mega Man & Bass, but I've never played all the way through it (again with the screen-ratio issues).

MM8 was tough in spots, but I hated the robot masters. Except Pirate man, obviously.

And I get what you're saying, AI. And I think as soon as the X series got off the SNES, it started to go downhill.
