As opposed to the topic where we list old games that should be avoided, let's take some time to list some retro games that are definite plays. And please, avoid obvious titles like Super Mario Bros. or LttP or anything like that. For me, I'd have to say Jurassic Park for the SNES, or The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis. If there ever were any more badass games based off of a movie, I'd like you to show me. |

Very satisfying to master, always a thrill to beat it and the music/graphics are top notch for the NES. Experience earns you more moves, more moves mean you can take down the big guys. Defeating enemies with tougher moves earns you experience faster. Enemies drop weapons like knives, bats, whips and barrels - this becomes a mainstay of the series. Double Dragon II: Easier to play, still difficult to master. Even more complex graphics than the first DDragon, and still more killer music. Coop gameplay makes this a must-have for the beatemup genre. Tough platforming elements near the end and a wide variety of enemies from this era, overall one of my favorite games ever. Here's a neat little secret: For a different take on single-player mode, enter 2-player mode with friendly fire turned on. Do away with the baddies immediately on screen, and use player 1 to kill player 2. For every life you take from player 2, player 1 will gain a life. You can use this to play through the more difficult coop mode by yourself. Alternatively, you can use it to save lives that are about to be lost while playing coop properly. If, for example, player 2 is especially low on health, player 1 can finish off that life and gain it for hisself. Then, when player 2 begins his next life, he can beat the snot out of player 1 to get his life back. Thus, the life is saved. Double Dragon III: Strictly for the hardcore DDII fan. One life per character, 3 possible characters overall in single player mode (that's 3 lives for the whole goddamn game). Different characters handle differently. Enemies are more intelligent. Levels are a go-where-you-please format, rather than a must-move-forward style like DDragon and DDragon II. Very good music, and more moves than the first game, but very frustrating to play (especially in single player). Each character starts out with a limit amount of a tolken special-weapon uses, to do extra amounts of damage (the Lee brothers get nunchaku). Probably the most playable character is the ninja (I believe his name is Hanzo, no time to go and check), but he also starts with the lowest amount of health, and you get him last of the 4 possible characters. Not for wimps like the "Angry Nintendo Nerd" - this game rewards your accomplishments with more pain. |

Dude, those games all sucked like they were payed to. Here's a good one, albeit basic and kidish: Power Rangers The Movie. 2 player co-op, decent all 'round. Oh, Rangers was for SNES. Also, Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension. Excellent gameplay, controls and graphics, crap music and stages. Also for SNES. Last edited by I REALLY HATE POKEMON!; 03-06-2009 at 02:20 AM. It was pretty groundbreaking, and had really slick graphics for the time. Last edited by Cosmonautical; 03-06-2009 at 08:28 AM. |

My favourite retro game ever is 'Jumpman Junior' on the Commodore. It's a terrific hard-as-nails puzzler-platformer----highly recommend it, if you ever see a rom lying about. |

An odd mix of Zelda-like adventure and Raiden-like sh'mup, combined with a Metroid-like atmosphere. Also, it's made by Compile, which offically cinches the awesomeness. |
