Genre or content doesn't really matter. Only one exception: I don't mean movies that are concrete conversions of games, like "Super Mario Bros." or "Street Fighter" etc. Oh, and of course the videogame topic must be prominently featured. Movies about any random topic where you can see someone playing NES in one scene of course don't count either. I will start the list with three movies: "The Wizard", Nintendo's longest commercial ever. "Joysticks" (Joysticks (1983)) from 1983 about an arcade and a bunch of people who spend their time there. "Press Start" (Press Start: Now Available on DVD). I haven't seen it, but the trailer looks promising. |

So: I thought about either really existing videogames (like in "The Wizard") or parodies of existing games (like in "Press Start"). "Tron" is more a science fiction thing as far as I know it. But it is not based on a real game at all. Same with "War Games" which is about some kind of computer hacker who accidentally believes a simulation from the government to be a game. Instead I'm looking for movies that have a connection to the games that I like, movies that have a videogame retro touch. The following doesn't match the conditions because it's not a movie and just 1/3 of an TV episode of a series, but content-wise it's quite a match: "Futurama", episode 50, "Anthology of Interest_II", segment 2, "Raiders of the Lost Arcade": What if the world was a videogame? |
