Goldeneye "Long Past" Chances of 360/Wii Release

Goldeneye "Long Past" Chances of 360/Wii Release

Quote:
One of the most oft-requested classic games for porting to modern systems is certainly the N64's Goldeneye. We've heard of the game stalling in talks before, but now Rare has given what seems to be the final word on its fate, via word from Nintendo Everything. "That was some time ago, my friend," the company wrote in a Scribes column, in response to a question regarding the game coming to the Xbox 360 or Wii. "Fate was against us that day. Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury. I suspect we're long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know."

That will probably serve as the last we'll hear on the subject of a game port, especially since it sounds like Rare was given a hard lesson in licensing difficulties. Fans will be upset, of course, but keep in mind the game was made over 10 years ago. What seemed so revolutionary then may not be anymore, so Goldeneye could be a game best kept to fond memories.

I only really liked the multiplayer. Timesplitters = superior.

First-Person shooters suck when you're lonely. That's the way they all go. Except for Metroid Prime, though that's more of a First-Person Adventure.

Yep. And playing coop can suck hard if your friend keeps taking all the ammo, accidentally or otherwise.

I second this.

CoD and Halo work quite well for me if I ever wish to play an FPS alone.
Especially CoD 2 and 4.

As far as Metroid Prime, wasn't it actually an action/adventure game done in first-person for atmosphere?

Metroid Prime is a non-linear, singular-world, FPS/Adventure/Platformer. It breaks an assload of boundaries. Because the series is so text and puzzle heavy, I'm hesitant to declare it immediately an action title. The series has action elements, especially in the second and third games (imo, much more than necessary), but relies more on hazards than enemies for overall action elements - which sort of leans towards the platformer/puzzle genres. What it is, is a very elegant, modern solution to gameplay that ignores genres.
