I'm putting this in the Retro Forum since it seems to encompass most older games, but you can post newer or non-Nintendo games in this thread as well. One of the best game series I would suggest is the gorey beat-em-up Splatterhouse series. Splatterhouse and Splatterhouse 2 are a couple of the funnest old games I've ever played (I still need to get SH2 on the VC). Splatterhouse 3 is one of the most genuinely creepy older games I've ever played. The games are fun to play and nostalgic for me. I'm looking forward to the new game coming out next Spring, even though it'll probably suck. The original Resident Evil survival horror series (not the Resident Evil 4 & 5 action shooter series) are a given. RE2 is one of my favorite games of all time. REmake was also one of the scariest games that was ever my pleasure to play. The Castlevania series could be relevant here. Monster Party for the NES is a goofy game, yet worth mention. Post and discuss some of your favorite "Halloween" games here. |

It doesn't limit itself to mutants or otherwise. Odium for the PC takes survival horror into tactical RPG territory. House of the Dead has got to be one of the best lightgun-styled series out there, and the voice acting is memorably the worst I've ever heard in a game. By contrast, Chiller is absolutely one of the worst light gun games of all time, but it's one of the few if not the only 2-player NES lightgun games. |

Looking back, it was so hokie, but when I was a kid it scared the crap out of me. |

Damn. |

Anywho, here's a few awesome privately-made horror games that I've enjoyed playing. You can download them and play if you're interested, they all have Val's seal of approval. ![]() One of the most well-made RPG Maker 2003 games I've ever played, Splatterhouse 2k3 is an RPG based off of the Splatterhouse series. It features a lot of the weapons, monsters, and locales from the series, and even has a decent storyline and multiple endings. It's a fun game, although a bit difficult due to some broken stats (if you have RPGM2k3, you can edit the stats to your liking). Worth playing, for sure. Download here. ![]() Missing is an excellent point-and-click mystery game created by an old friend of mine, Orchard-L. You play as a former cop investigating the disappearance of his wife and son at an old English hotel. One of the most chilling and suspenseful games I've ever played, and one I've replayed many times. The game's not too long, but has a lot of frightening and memorable scenes. The ending will get you. Download here. ![]() Another game by my friend Orchard-L. This is an RPG survival game, in which you play as a young girl trying to reclaim her memory and survive in a hellish world after waking up from an earthquake. Very difficult, but an excellent game. Frightening and immersive, and once again, the ending is a shocker. Download here. |

An old Capcom game that set the groundwork for the Resident Evil series. Japan-only, but there's an unofficial translation to English. |

I love it to bits. Worth mentioning as well are the 7th Guest and the 11th hour. |
