Okay, well we need some more qualifying factors about the game. Person in black clothes usually means ninja. What kind of combat is in the game?

Oops, only just noticed you said no combat. I've been looking around for anything that meets your description. What was the objective of the game, specifically?

That's the best 8-bit scream I've ever heard.

Impossible Mission II for the NES.

Black clothes? Check. Elevators? Check. "Tic, tic" footsteps? Check. Collecting (i.e. "stealing") stuff? Check. Awesome scream at 3:43? Hell yes.

Is this your game?

I just want to give props to AS for finding a plausible match given the rambling, AOLish thread post.

Oh ****. I spent about an hour looking up spy games last night trying to find this one. I remembered it being Mission: Impossible for some reason, and totally forgot about the Impossible Mission series. Hahaha.

I love that his only method of jumping is an amazingly high forward vertical roll, even when he is merely hopping over small holes.

Luke's super jump was ridiculous, yes, but at least you had the option of a normal jump. Based on the video here, this requires superflipjumping everywhere he goes.
