AI, move this to where you see fit) I had a Sega Genesis lying around for a few years, and wasn't using it because of a lost power supply. But I found out that the local comics shop has them, along with lots else paraphernalia, so I'm planning on using it. "lots else paraphernalia" includes games. Any recommendations?* *other than Sonic 2 and Stimpy's Invention, I have those |

The other Sonic games are decent, and if you can find them: Ristar, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, and Gunstar Heroes. Then there's Mega Man: The Wily Wars, but there's no way that shop's going to have it. |

There was also this Dungeons and Dragons game, but it sucked. |

Random facts: The "Genesis" was the system's secondary name, and only came about due to a legal conflict over the name "Mega Drive" in the US - Everywhere else it's the Mega Drive. It was Sega's 3rd home console system, not their second or first as some imagine. Preceding it was their first - the SG-1000 which simultaneously targeted the popular home computer market. This system debuted with the home-games market crash looming in the immediate future, and contributed to the events leading to the japanese division's acquisition by CSK, a japanese conglomerate. Following Nintendo's successful resurrection of the Western market, the Master System launched to fanfare only in European and later South American markets. It didn't fair as well in its homeland, Japan, because of stiff competition by the popular PC Engine (Turbo Grafx 16 in the US) in the 16-bit sector which predated the MD launch. Its engineering is often erroneously considered more powerful than the SNES/Super Famicom by amateur hardware enthusiasts, as it clocks a higher CPU speed. Those comparisons are inaccurate as the SNES makes use of a chip custom-tailored for the processes native to the game industry, and has access to a faster DRAM in double the amount of the Genesis design. The subjective comparisons are made moreso untrue by principle that the SNES design allowed for additional processing power to be housed in each cartridge, while the Genesis came to rely on costly and unpopular add-ons to expand processing power. Similarily, the SNES boasts a full 8-bit simultaneous color palette, chosen from a 15-bit, 32,768 color register. Compare the Genesis, which has access to a simultaneous palette 1/4th the size, chosen from a register of 512 colors. That's 1/64th the amount of possible colors available to games developers on the SNES. The Genesis is often seen as a huge success, but ironically the system lacked the interest of the general public until the debut of Sonic the Hedgehog as SEGA's flagship enterprise. SEGA's current name comes from the company's second title - SErvice GAmes. The company is not Japanese in origin, but rather was founded by Marty Bromely as Standard Games, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The company was founded to entertain Military Servicemen via coin-operated games such as pinball. It later moved to Tokyo during Japan's occupation by the US, again following military personnel. IE; I just recently read another promotional bit about how Zelda II is a surprisingly good game, despite being the "black sheep" of the Zelda family. That story went on to claim that the story is "the usual stuff" - that you're trying to defeat Ganon and rescue princess Zelda, again. Ganon's dead and you're trying to find a release spell for Zelda's sleeping ancestor, another Zelda, who is safely preserved on a pedestal in the North Palace. Neither observation is correct, and the guy that wrote it obviously doesn't like the game as much as he claims to, since he can't even recall the brief backstory.

I mean, it could've made sense if it were printed in SPIN magazine. More random facts: Sonic 3's soundtrack was worked on by Michael Jackson, himself. 32x didn't just sink itself while tarnishing the name of the successful Genesis/Mega Drive platform; it also helped to pull the Saturn down with it by making use of the same CPU chips the Saturn design depended on, creating a shortage of processor hardware during the Saturn's crucial launch period. Oops. |

But honestly I don't think there's anything like being sick and staying in your dorm room playing Zelda I all day. |

I mostly get what I know about SEGA from interviews and excerpts from gaming magazines. I was always on the Nintendo side of things, mostly because SEGA showed up late to the game and I'd experienced enough awful Master System games to be unimpressed with the company by the time of the Genesis's commercial arrival. Crav had a BTW, Crav and I might be the only ones who get this, but here's a great SEGA joke: Blast Processing |

That thing was like a grandma's toy compared to the Genesis and its totally real, totally existing BLAST PROCESSING Here's the video I was talking about. There are some annotations that have been added since I've seen it a few years ago. The narration isn't that great, but it plays all the suspicious songs and similarities back-to-back and it's really crazy.
