Exclamation GBA's 10th anniversary!

10 Years Ago Today, The Last Game Boy Was Born | Kotaku Australia

On the 21st, the Japanese GBA was officially a decade past. The system had tons of potential, and in a way it gave rise to the best iterations of the Game Boy's games library so far. I will remember it as the system that the Game Boy Color should have been, and the system whose redesigns worked so well, it made many of question why the hell you would want a touch screen and N64-esque graphics when the DS was announced.

I remember how dark that stupid screen was on the first iteration. I remember having to position it just right at certain times so there was enough light for me to see everything, but not so much that there was a glare on the screen.

The SP fixed that nicely, though.

Unfortunately I never bought an SP, so I was stuck with that horrid unlit screen all the way until the DS came out.

Not when you have one of these.

Kept my GBA company throughout its twilight years. They've never separated since.

Which reminds me, GameStop is going to stop selling GBA games soon.

So I picked up a new copy of Mario Kart: Super Circuit right away.

A-yup, thanks for reminding me, DZ. GBA support dies out soon there. Gotta grab one of the GBA Metroids so I can get through it on my DS Lite.

I love my old GBA. Still use it. Unfortunately I only use it for Pokemon, since it's pretty inconvenient to play anything else sans backlight.

The SP was possibly one of the best reiterations of a Nintendo handheld to date, though. Especially the special-edition NES controller one.
