Red face Good SNES games

I'm bored, I'm trying to find good SNES ROMS to download and play on my emulator, any suggestions?
I already have the usual ones, both ROMS and the real thing, such as Super Star Wars, Kirby All Stars, Super Mario World, Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, A Link to The Past, and Donkey Kong Country.

Does anyone know any good RPGs for the SNES?

Both DKC2 and DKC3 are musts.

As for RPGs, SNES is the King of RPGs. Almost ALL of my favorite games are SNES RPGs.
-Chrono Trigger is a HUGE MUST. If you miss out on that you miss out on RPGs as a whole. CT is the best game ever made.
-Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI are the best three Final Fantasies, FFVI in particular.
-Earthbound - One of the funniest and different RPGs I've ever played.
-Lufia I and II, and especially Lufia II. This is the most underrated RPG of all time. It's a lot of fun, including the 99 level Ancient Cave
-Breath of Fire I and II. Important games, and a lot of fun.
-And of course, Super Mario RPG.-CSM

For some pick-up-and-play action games, try Wild Guns and Sparkster.

Don't hold your breath for DKC3. It's very sub-par for the series.

Favorites include:

Beatemups/Fighters-
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Super Double Dragon, Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage, Killer Instinct, Clayfighter 1 & 2

RPGs/Adventure games-
Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2), Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, FFIII(6), Illusion of Gaia (though for the gameplay, the plot is bonkers), Star Ocean, Earthbound - would not recommend the Lufia Series - very generic/boring/cheap

Other-
Mega Man X series, Super Contra, Super Mario Kart, Top Gear, Super Bomberman 1 & 2, Super Adventure Island, F-Zero, Kirby's Avalanche, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Equinox

..And my memory will no longer cooperate. I'll bother Crav to name any I missed.

Part of the problem with Lufia 2 is a matter of timing. This game may have been more acceptable had it not been released after Final Fantasy 4, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound. The story for Lufia 2 was a throwback to a time when RPG stories didn't have to be consistent or be about anything. As a prequel to Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, this game was supposed to be about how the Sinistrals came to power and the war against them (the conclusion of which is the opening sequence of Fortress of Doom), but very little of the plot has anything to do with that. Just a bunch of random things happen that have no relation to anything that came before or anything that comes after. And some of those things were already done in other RPGs. Retrieving the king's crown from the thieves who stole it was also the first task of Dragon Warrior 3, and the catfish that creates earthquakes was right out of A Link to the Past. The business with Dekar sacrificing himself to save everyone else was similar to what Yang did in Final Fantasy 4, but at least there was an explanation as to what happened to Yang afterwards and why he didn't just rejoin you. If Dekar survived, then where was he all that time? Even ignoring the problems with the story, the battle system is far too easy. The final areas don't even have any enemies in them besides the bosses. There are some good puzzles, and that's the highlight of the game, but I absolutely, truly hated Maxim as a character because of the way he just ignores Tia's existence so that he can later fall in love with Selan for no apparent reason. (Maybe he really digs her porkchop legs.) I was truly surprised (shocked even) when I first got on the internet to find that Lufia 2 was considered by many people to be the best Super NES RPG, because even though I don't think it's a bad game, I also don't think it comes anywhere close to that (especially not when considering the competition for that title that I listed above.) I've only known of two people (DiefWolf and Kiera Lordens) who've had a similar opinion to mine on it.

One of the most alarming results of Lufia 2's story being considered great is that sometimes it seems people think that Lufia 2-style storytelling is the only kind that's acceptable for RPGs. If the story has a lot of little unrelated twists and turns, it's perceived as having depth. If the story has a single theme that it attacks and stays true to from beginning to end, people will say it's shallow. This is probably one of the reasons that we get so many RPGs (and other types of games now, for that matter), that have plot twists anywhere from the halfway point on up to the very end that make everything that came before it irrelevant. What happens at the beginning of a story should still somehow be significant by the end, and it wasn't in Lufia 2 since Arek just completely disappeared and the Tia character amounted to nothing.

Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!

Arrow Me again.

If you like sh'mups, try Axelay, UN Squadron (aka Area 88), and (the best SNES sh'mup) Space Megaforce (aka Super Aleste).

[edit: Also, Firepower 2000 (aka Super SWIV)]

AI, I agree that DKC3 wasn't the best in the series, but I think most people think it to be worse than it actually is because of how fan-freaking-tastic the first games were. I enjoyed DKC3. I love all 3 of those games, I just happen to like 3 the least.

You know what I'm saying? It's a good game, but people don't like it because of its predecessors.

No, I honestly hated the level design and the sloppy thrown-together feeling of the game. The engine was played out, and the new characters/enemies were uncreative. The levels frequently show the characteristics of what people consider 'bad' about the 2D platforming genre in general, even though most of that is based around misconception. Also, the game basically takes place in Canada. What the hell is up with that? Minus 1000 points for thinking Canada should have anything to do with a Donkey Kong game. Hell, for being named after Donkey Kong, it sure as hell had barely anything to do with him. The plot was pretty effing lame, now that I think of it. Also, there was an overall lack of attentiveness to detail in the background. Whereas the first 2 games made good use of as many layers as the SNES was capable of, in some of the first levels of DKC3, there are cabins up in the first layer of background, ontop the cliff. Their 'smallness' should be due to perspective and foreshortening, but they're in the first effing layer. Their movement in relation to the immediate background would suggest that they belong on a mini-golf course. Do you see what I'm getting at here? The game is mediocre, and for everything it attempts to do and stumbles, the first two games were flawless in presentation - making it not just mediocre, but actually a disgusting cash-in.

I remember I always thought DCK3 was a bit weird. I remember playing it a looong time ago, all I remember was that it was just...weird to me. Everything was always snow, and one of the bosses was King K. Rool, only like he was Frankenstein or something, I was like "Wtf?"

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, AI. You bring up some good points, too, and those are why I don't like 3 nearly as much as the first 2. However, I still like it.

I hate how Smokey the Bear took over the world between 2 and 3, though.

I think DKC3 took place somewhere near DK Pass, that wierd MKDS level that had practically nothing to do with Donkey Kong.

I think AI was kidding about it taking place in Canada, but since pretty much every stage has scenery that can be found somewhere in Canada (the tundras, the forests, the mountains, etc., except maybe a volcano) I can see where he's coming from.

Lagoon is still one of my favorite SNES rpg's. The game design was good, as was the elemental combination ideas. Maybe not the ultimate storyline, but the final boss is hard as hell, so that's got to say something.

Your reaction and the fact you couldn't even be bothered to check around the site and find that (A) that's a woman, and (B) her knowledge of games is so wide that I'd be willing to bet she's played Pong tells me you also couldn't be bothered to read those descriptions under each game, where she explain why those games are on there.

And I think Xevious sucks too, and to a lesser extent Duck Hunt. I'm indifferent about the other two.

^ I agree for all of the reasons that Lufia 2 and many others are 'overrated', but her immense dislike of Star Fox 64 has me shaking my head. It had flaws, sure, but it was a truly entertaining game. Also, sticking a game like Yoshi's Story on that list is just bad form, as most anyone will go out of their way to put it down. Anyone who expects an unbiased review from a magazine with "Nintendo" in their title is a fool.

I didn't say it does. I said it was based off of Canada, or for someone like you who doesn't get that I mean the land and not the entire freaking country: INHABITABLE UPPER NORTH AMERICA. Everything is snowy, yes, the whole worldmap is based around some bay/lake, and there are tons of lumberjack-themed levels. How do you not see 'great white north' written all over that?
