Dragon Warrior

However, I suggest saving the money you have and getting a GBA.

Get Donkey Kong '94.

The LAST GREAT 2-D Mario game, and it was incredible. Hours of oldskool Mario fun.

There's also Zelda: Link's Awakening. Also a good choice.

A game I can recommend to you is Test Drive: Le Mans. It's the best GBC racing game in my opinion. I can say that the 100 lap race in the Le Mans mode will eat away about six hours (this was my estimated guess after completing that race). If 100 laps is too much, you can choose a 24 or 4 lap race if you wish. Good thing you can save the race at each pit stop.

It also has some good graphics. The backgrounds are colorful, and the trackside objects and cars are decent looking as well. This game has something for everyone from the Arcade mode (with a good set of power-ups, no projectiles though) to the Championship and Le Mans modes. No multiplayer though, but the game is good enough as it is. I'm sure you'll enjoy this game if you get it.

Dragon Warrior III got excellent reviews at GameFAQs. I'm considering it, but you might like it.
