Take that, Jaquio! Take that, demon! Take that, Ryu's dad!... oh, whoops. Lordy, this game was tough. I had to replay stage 6 more than six times in this run alone (if you've played the game, you know how much that sucks to do). If this game weren't so damn fun, I'd never have had the patience to get through it. A belated thanks to Team Ninja for one of the finest games ever to grace the NES! I'm wondering if this is the game that Ninja Gaiden(X-box)/Ninja Gaiden Black unlocks for collecting the scarabs. But I think that may be the arcade version or something(if it exists). |

And the plot was horrendous anywho, so nobody should really care. And no, there's no 2-player. This is a single player platformer. This is the original Ninja Gaiden of the NES trilogy. |

It's also known as Ninja Gaiden, but the NES series is better known for that name. Congrats on beating NG, dude, it's an awesome game and very tough to beat! And in the Retro Forum, you're better off not spoiling endings of ridiculously tough games, old or not. |

I remember the farthest I ever got was on a emulator, whereas every time I messed up I would just reload the save state. All I ever got to was that mine area with the green ninjas trying to katana-slice you. |

I remember there being that part with the boss that basically you have to hit enough times before he kills you. I don't know how to describe it, but it happens somewhere around level 5, in the middle of a level or something? It was really screwy. |

At first, I was all "WTF H4XX?!" but then I figured out Ryu is indeed faster at dealing damage than he is. I think 6-2 was the hardest stage, and most people seem to agree with me on that. I can do it in my sleep now since the game makes you re-play all of act 6 if you die (not game-over, just die) on any of the three bosses at the end of act 6. Still, my initial run of that stage was something I'd rather not re-live anytime soon. In other news, I just beat Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos the other day. Not quite as hard as the original in my opinion, but a great challenge and a great improvement over NG in many ways (shadow clones, anyone?). I've been told to steer clear of the third installment, but now that it's on VC, I may be tempted to give it a go. DP: Oh yeah, reasons why 6-2 sucks: -An army of jetpack ninjas. Uh... what?! -More birds than you can shake a Dragon Sword at. -One section of the stage throws running soldiers, bats, cultists, and birds at you all at the same time. I don't care how good you are, you will never be able to improvise a solution to that one your first few runs. This requires serious calculation and timing skills. A lot of people just have big gripes over the changes to the engine, but it's a superior engine IMO. I remember 6-2, I think, I know where you're coming from. The birds and bats are obviously the worst ones. My least favorite enemy in the game is the guy that lobs that huge round blade at you. Mofo is hard to dodge. Still, birds = haaaaaaaaate. I honestly wouldn't recommend playing Ninja Gaiden without save states just because of the shear amount of sinister level-design in the levels past 5. If they'd let you save or at least give you a password, it would be cool, but you don't even start at the beginning of the current level if you continue. |

I beat that game back when I was ten and it's made me a more skilled player for it. |
