A remake of the original, sort of. It starts off with the first 4 levels (that are shorter than their arcade version), then the ending music plays, but is interupted by Donkey Kong's waking up, DK kidnaps Pauline again and takes her to a whole new game, with Mario following. Thus, DKGB begins, and acrobatic moves become a reality.

The main feature in SM64 and one of the main features in SMS are the acrobatic moves, and they began here, with a simple backflip and handstand duo. The backflip is pulled off in a similar way that it's done in SMS, only you have to be running. The handstand is performed by jumping while in a ducking position. Backflips are fun but mostly useless due to the number of things that can be perfomed with the handstand. You can block falling objects and jump super high with it! It does slow you down, but oh well.

The levels require you to make use of these moves, and your ability to pick objects up. Normally, you have to find a key, pick it up, and bring it back to the door that needs to be unlocked. Sometimes, you have to pave your way to Pauline, or throw barrels at DK himself, but unlocking the door is your usual goal.

I won't hide the fact that the game is REALLY HARD. It took me 5 years (I'm not joking) to beat the game. Believe me, these levels are pure evil. Be afraid. Be as afraid as your mind can possibly let you.

The graphics are nice and easy to understand, though nothing truly spectacular, unless you play on Super Game Boy. The sound and music is okay, the boss tune is particualrily neat. Control is easy. And I really didn't mention all of Mario's new moves. DKJR style vine climbing, switch flipping, and wire swing await you. Oh, and poison mushrooms are here too. And Donkey Kong Jr. Although Stanley the bugman never appears. What's up with that?

9/10

This is one game I gave up on without making any headway into it.

That game's probably one of the best platformers ever. I've beaten it about 10 times all the way through and it never gets boring.

All I can say is:

Level 8-14 is the devil.

I loved the credits music, though.
