I've been a fan of the Metroid series for a while without playing the actual games. I played the SSB games, but those weren't really what made me a fan. What did make me a fan was this one really cheesy comic that had Samus shooting stuff. Now, I FINALLY get a Metroid game, and I'm an even bigger fan.

I'm not going to say much about the plot (most of you already know it anyway), but it's more involved than the other Metroid games (from what I've heard). Occasionally, there are cutscenes, usually a monolouge from Samus during an elevator ride. And the villain (SA-X, who I'll get to later), is better than Mother Brain, since it hunts you out actively, where Mother Brain just sits there and hopes her minions kill you. Like I said, the plot is more involved.

Now, most people would probably complain that the computer is always telling you where to go, but for this layout, I'd have to say that it's probably for the best. It would be kind of annoying to go to the wrong area again... and again... and again... and the computer really only tells you which area to go to. The map tells you the rest.

But it's the scenarios you end up in that I like. Especially fun are these "battles" (most of them aren't really battles, but scenarios) where you have to get away from SA-X, Samus's evil clone. The first few just have you avoiding it, but you'll soon be running like mad, trying to get away from it, and you never know when it will show up next. One minute, you're strolling around, then, you're struggling for survival because SA-X is accurate, and can kill you in just a few hits, getting away from it is tremendously hard, but fun.

And the power-ups are also good (just to refresh your memory, this is the only Metroid game I've ever played so you may like another game's ower-ups better), there's the speed booster, the space jump, ice missiles, the spring ball, etc. Very fun.

But there is something I don't like. A few of the bosses (the Spider, just to give an example) are far too difficult for they're own good. I can beat the main part, then Core-X (Appears every time you beat a boss) comes, I shoot it, it turns invincible for a couple of minues, when it stops being invincible, I'm dead. THAT IS VERY FRUSTERATING! I'M WRITING LIKE THIS SO YOU'LL GET THE PICTURE!

Also, there's a small issue with the control. To fire a missile, you have to hold R and press B. after you fire one, you have to press R again or you'll switch back to you're regular beam. This is annoying if you're not used to it. And I doubt you'll be when you first play. They should've just had R automatically fire missiles.

All problems aside, Metroid Fusion is a great game. Earlier, I said that Megaman Zero was the best game on the GBA market, I changed my mind.
9.5/10

I reviewed this for NGF (don't know when it'll be making it up onto the site tho...) I gave it an 8, however. Two major reasons:

1. It's way too short.

2. WAAAAAAY too easy at the end. A five year old could have beaten the last three bosses.

Sad, such an awesome game got messed up.

Although I agree that MegaManZero is really good.

^I can't say much about that, since I haven't beaten the game yet.

Anywho, I forgot to talk about the graphics and sound. The graphics are good, Samus doesn't look as tough, but probably since SA-X was supposed to look more powerful.

The music is great though. It's very eerie, and the boos themes differ from boss to boss. SA-X's themes (there are 2) are especially cool. One is when SA-X is in the room, but doesn't know you're there, you have to avoid it, and that isn't always easy, but the music fits perfectly. The other theme is when SA-X is chasing you, the challenge, music, and speed of these moments makes this one of the few games that really got my adrenaline up.

You're COMPLAINING!?!?!? This feature is GODLY! In the older metroid games you had to use select MULTIPLE TIMES to switch from missiles to super missiles to ice beam to... etc. I'm ecstatic about this new way. (and if you have to use missiles repeatedly, just hold down the friggen R button!)

If anyone needs help in this game, LET ME KNOW, I've beaten it and I can help ya

Aganhim's right. The final few bosses are TOO easy.
>Next-to-last-boss (I don't want to reveal anything) was tough at first, but I whooped it's ass when I found out what I was doing.
>Last-Boss, same as above.

It was a good game. I agree about the annoying Core X. The plot really could have been less corny, (there's one part in particular near the end that I didn't like, but I won't spoil it) but over all, it was a good addition. I found most of the bosses fairly difficult but that might be because I only found 40% of the items the first time through.
My one real complaint was the computer. Metroid games are known for their free roaming, exploration aspect. That's kind of destroyed when the damn computer SEALS you into the section it thinks you should be in. The earlier Metroid games didn't have scenarios and that's actually what made them so popular. While the game tried to keep you in the correct area with clever obstacles, it never felt like it, and you were always free to go off a do your own thing. In this area Fusion is greatly lacking.

Actually, I do have one more complaint. Where's the X-ray scope?! I miss it.

X-Ray scope? I've looked at many walkthroughs and never had it mentioned. It must not be in the game.

I have to disagree with you on that one. Just because it's a first-person shooter doesn't mean that it's automatically going to suck...

Good review, though. The spider boss was as hard as hell, but the Core-X really isn't all that hard...

Nice review.I only disagree with the last part.I can tell they tried really hard to make MP different from your ordinary FPS.

Even if you HATE FPSes, give Prime a try. It doesn't feel like an FPS.

[EDIT: Oh yes, and I agree with Dark Magus that the control layout for the missiles is very good, especially when compared to previous Metroids.]

I do hold the button down, but if I wait more than a second after firing, the misiles turn off, which leaves me with regular beams that don't usually affect the bosses. It's annoying.

EDIT: Nevermind, I wasn't completely holding the button down. But I still think it could have been better. Accidentaslly release the button during a boss battle and you're toast.

-A Genius (And I hate all FPS games, giving me the expectation of Metroid Prime. The demo station didn't leave me feeling excited. It felt like any other FPS only with les combata, which is actually a plus in my opinion.)
