| Guest Posts: n/a | Gameplay: 8/10 Yeah, this Super NES/Genesis game is based on the movie. Unlike the NES version of "Batman" which is based on the first movie(which I reviewed earlier), you have the ability to use all of Batman's trademark moves: The cape glide, grappling hook, Batarang, etc. Sadly, you don't get to drive the Batmobile or any other Batvehicle. You get to play through various scenes from the movie. Oh, there's one catch: you have to perform a complicated button pattern to use the extra weapons you select before each stage. This is nearly impossible without the manual. Graphics: 10/10 This game sports excellent 3D sprite graphics, and also includes a scene in the beginning which shows Batman and Robin running toward the camera, like at the end of the movie. The animations are smooth, and the backgrounds detailed and realistic. The Super NES's graphics don't get much better than this. Sound: 7/10 While this game has gloomy, full music that matches the corresponding stage, the sounds are recycled a lot. All the male characters make the same grunts and yelps, and the one or two females have the same voice as well. Aside from that, there's probably three or four enviroment sounds in the game. A game with good graphics should also have good sound; one cannot make up for the other. Controls: 5/10 Like I said earlier, the controls are really bad. It's not easy memorizing the button patterns to perform twelve different weapons, most of which are essential to the stage. The many stunts are also difficult to master, such as the caped glide, hole drop(dropping through a hole, duh), and verticle grapple hook(the default grapple hook is diagonal). Otherwise, the control response is pretty sloppy, and Batman/Robin move pretty slowly for super-heroes. Challenge/Replay: 6/10 Not much replay value, since there's no save/password feature. Unless you know the code to select a stage, which I forgot years ago. The challenge is, well... overdone. You're given 5 lives, which you share with Robin if you play a 2 player mode. By the third stage, you'll probably be down to your last life if you play on the "easy" mode. And there's about ten stages in the game. Overall: 7/10 Not too good considering how well the other Batman games played. I'm sure the Super NES can handle a save mode for this game. If not, they should have included a password feature. Mixing a So-hard-only-a-hard-core-fan-can-beat-this game with a Start-from-the-beginning-every-time-you-play game doesn't make for good ratings. This one gets 7 out of 10. |
