The 3rd proided the needed effort into the formula of the second. And the fourth ruins everything established in the 3rd. Now, the graphics are okay. Not too good, not too bad. They aren't a very big step up from WL3, but it works. Sound and music is where the game shows problems. This time around, the music doesn't change when you get transformed, it just gets a little warped. There are a bunch of CDs around, which allow you to listen to various tunes, but they're not that great. There's no ending theme this time around. Well, there is, but it's really short, and for most of the credits, music from the stages begins to play. The control is easy. But Wario's charge feels... different somehow. Gameplay is particualarily awful. They decided to take the immortality system, butcher it's transformations, and add a health bar. Okay... And the transformations are REALLY awful in this game. All Wario has are the most rudimentary of them. Like fat Wario, zombie Wario, etc. And bouncy Wario and vampire Wario, two of my personel favorites, are terrible. Bouncy Wario can only make one super bounce before he goes out of commission. Vampire Wario is stuck in bat form. At least when you're puffy Wario, you can press A to float faster. And as for exploration, an important element in the past Wario games, there's hardly any. The CDs can provide some challenge, but it's not that hard. The "puzzle pieces" (You need to collect 4 in each level to fight a boss) are all out in the open. The game does have several minigames. Two of them are quite fun, the third is.. eh, average. As for replay value, forget it. While you can try to get all 26 treasures, it will only take your second play-thrpugh to do so. There's a hard mode, but it's stupid. The CDs aren't hard to get. Overall, this game sucks. But it could've been worse. I guess. Graphics: 7/10 Sound/Music: 6/10 Gameplay: 5/10 Control: 7/10 Replay: 3/10 Overall: 5.4/10 |
