Golde Sun: The Lost Age

A lot of people think I hate Golden Sun. This is not true. I love Golden Sun. I just hate the battle system, the djinn, the characters, the plot, the battle system, the gameplay, the conversations, the unoriginal bosses, the equally unoriginal enemies, the lack of replay value, and the battle system. Other than that, the game is perfect! And it's sequel is just as good! In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say it's a port of the first game, only longer! Hey, it IS a port of the first game, only longer! That would be it, then.

That's right, not only is the formula of this game, unoriginal, it even suffers from Final Fantasy Fever(TM)! Basically, that means that both games are basically the same. Only GS2 is longer. And has a better story, but I don't rate stories.

Even the graphics are ripped out of the first. That's a bad thing, by the way. I'll be lowering the graphics score, because of that. Can't say the same for music, however. The music was well-composed in the first one, and even more so in this. Wonderous.

Since it's the same as the first game, I'll be quick with the gameplay section. You start in this one place and occasionally you beat up some enemies, which is really easy since the enemies in this game require no actual thinking or skill to defeat. Occasionally you talk to people, and conversations are a bit like this (NOTE: not actual conversation. But it's kinda hard to tell.):

Kraden: WE MUST GET THE THINGEE
Felix:
Some Informative Yet Random Old Man: IT IS IN THE REALM OF THE THINGEE TEMPLE
Felix:
Kraden: THEN WE SHALL PROCEED TO ENTER THE THINGEE TEMPLE

Jenna: BUT WHAT IF THERE ARE EVIL MONSTERS IN THE THINGEE TEMPLE
Felix:
Kraden: TRUE WHAT IF THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THE THINGEE TEMPLE

Jenna: HMMM IT WOULD CERTIANYL CAUSE TRUOBLES IN OUR QUEST IF MONSTERS KILLED US
Felix:
Sheba: MY MAGIC IS PATHETIC
Felix:
Jenna: I KNOW IF THE EVIL MONSTERS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BUT PROBBALY ARE IN THE THINGEE TEMPLE THEN WE WILL SLAY THEM IF THEY ATTACK US

Kraden: GOOD IDEA.
Felix:
Sheba: BUT NOT WITH MY MAGIC RIGHT

Kraden: NO

Jenna: NO

Sheba: GOOD
Felix: This is stupid. I'm leaving.

Replay Value is actually fairly good, since this game is, as I stated before, longer than the first. Much longer.

And that's all there is to say about this game. If you appreciate good RPGs, particularily the ones seen during the 16-bit era, avoid this game.

Gameplay: 5/10
Graphics: 7/10
Sound/Music: 8/10
Replay Value: 8/10
Overall: 7/10 Which is actually too high for this game. So...

Actual Score: 5/10

I love your reviews... they make me laugh! GS was okay as games go... played better, much better and played worse!
