| Guest Posts: n/a | Kingdom Hearts, you'd probably never guess that it's a square and disney game, but you'd probably never guess that Square and Disney both made the game. It truly did have alot of potential, because almost everyone thought that with Kingdom hearts, Disney can start making better games, though some were pretty good already. I looked forward to this game, because Disney and Square might have been a really good tag team, and I guess that hearing Square help Disney with this game created a few unrealistic Expectations on my part. The graphics are pretty good. They did spend some time doing them, sure some of the backgrounds look like drawings on Cardboard Cutouts, the worlds look pretty strange, Monstro looks pretty gross, and Atlantica's water is a little on the Cloudy side. The Enemies look pretty well done, but they do get pretty boring to see Shadow Heartless spawn in almost every world, or to see the same heartless spawn over and over again. Most of the bosses look pretty cool, it is pretty nice to fight Oogie Boogie (Ever notice how Tainted King Queklain from FFT looks like Oogie Boogie? I did) in 3D. The other characters are pretty cool too, the disney characters look cartoonlike and the Square characters look really realistic, and the best characters are obviously the way Sephiroth looks here, and definatly the way Riku looks. Because this was a square game, I did expect it to have more than 2 FMV's, the only 2 are in the beginning and the end, and I guess that expectation came from too much FF8 and FF9. The music's pretty good, especially the Heartless boss music, The Halloween town music, Hallow Bastion, One Winged angel (Love the singers), and obviously Night on Bald mountain. Some of the music is just plain annoying (Especially in Atlantica, A.K.A, Hell.). They do have voice overs, but you'd probably expect for most characters to tell you what they're saying instead of having to read it off of Word Balloons. Most of the voices really do sound like how that character would sound if they were real, but hearing Sora, Donald, and Goofy yell during battle gets pretty annoying. And there's obviously the way that Sora's supposed to be 14 yet he doesn't sound like it. That's one of the drawbacks, and since I saw movies from the japanese version, I probably expected him to sound alot older. The control is probably one of the biggest drawbacks. It's pretty smooth in some worlds, but the magic Menu's just dang annoying, especially the way that the only spells you have in your shortcut are Aero, Stop, and Cure. The lock on feature is really great, and mainly your only way of attacking when you're in Hell or Flying. And while we're Speaking about hell, the controls there are just plain AWFUL! Seriously, you will scream or die more than once while in Atlantica, because not only are the bosses hard, but with the way they can attack you from practically every angle without knowing is just plain annoying, even more than the sphere grid. The game is way too easy, sure the game does have some hard bosses (Giant Ursula, Dragon, Riku with the Keyblade), but a majority of the bosses are way too easy, and the game does have some puzzles, but the only hard one is when you're fighting Ursula in her den. Luckily, we haven't lost all hope because getting some of the stuff like forging Ultima weapon and beating the optional bosses are pretty hard, as they were with the other Final Fantasies (FF5 had Omega, FF7 had Emerald and Ruby weapon, FF9 has Ozma). Overall, the game isn't too bad, it may lack some stuff that'll make it better, like how the storyline does seem retarded at times *cough*Crono Cross*Cough*, but it really does jump really deep into the storyline in the hollow Bastion. I'd suggest renting it to see if you want it first, because some like it, some don't. 7/10 [ August 17, 2003, 04:21 PM: Message edited by: Douglas Salguod ] |

| Guest Posts: n/a | ^I think what he was saying is that those are pretty much the only spells you'd want in the magic shortcut. I liked the game, though I was pretty mad about what they did to Riku at the end. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | ^Riku's alive, I just know it, along with King Mickey... Hmmm...maybe Kingdom Hearts 2 would have you play as Riku, Mickey, someone else... ![]() |

| Guest Posts: n/a | ^Yeah, they are alive but it looks like that they disappear at the end. Still, he would make a killer hero, what with his extreme coolness and all. King Mickey wouldn't be a half bad party member either, but if they make it so that he doesn't seem to know how to use his weapon properly, then uh-oh. The third party member? I don't really care, as long as they know how to use their weapons and abilities properly. (It might just be my CD, but whenever I tell a party member to use their MP comsuming abilities sometimes, they go right into battle and run out of MP before I even launch an attack, Though Donald is at least smart about his MP because I gave him the Dream rod) [ September 06, 2003, 10:53 PM: Message edited by: Douglas of the 7 winds ] |
