Dark Cloud was a very unknown game when it first came out, but not far after its release, the game was dubbed positive stuff such as "Must have" and "Zelda Killer", because some even argued whether or not it was better than Ocarina of Time, but now, they'd probably argue if Dark Cloud 2 is better than Wind Waker (In my opinion, they're both equal, but Nintendo had a little too much fun with the Cel-shading in Wind Waker) And is this "Zelda Killer" any better than Startropics, (And I dubbed it a Zelda Killer because it's as good as LoZ was) The graphics are pretty good. The monsters look cool, but the backgrounds are one of the drawbacks. In the dungeons, it's basically just one pattern that's repeated over and over again like the Footage of Joe Theismen. The characters are pretty good too, but when they move it looks like they are walking, but they move so fast it looks like they're running. Also, Dark Genie (The first time we see him) looks like a mysterious forshadowing of the tubby Majin Buu and The Fairy King's brother bears a mysterious resemblance to Haru. The difficulty is one of the drawbacks. First off, you spend roughly 86% of the game in Dungeons and when you're in dungeons, it's basically just kill enemies, Grab the Atilla, get the dungeon key, watch for your weapons, then go the the next floor, repeat the process unless it's a special floor (That leads to you getting a new party member usually) or a boss floor. Another drawback is how pathetically easy the dueling is. All you need to do is just press the buttons on time. And some of the bosses (Like Master Utan) are really easy, and the others are so hard you want to scream. The Storyline is fairley interesting. Almost every character you meet has something to do with the storyline with rebuilding the cities destroyed by Dark Genie (Fat power!!!) and around the end (After that 10 hour cutscene) the storyline gets very interesting and you'll keep wanting to play it until you beat the final boss. Overall, I see why this game was dubbed a "Zelda Killer" by some, but Zelda had more Interesting Dungeons (Hasn't Level 5 ever heard of Puzzles?) but you got to create the towns here. 8.74/10.00 Game awards: -Zelda Killer (There are also categories like Mario killer and Final Fantasy killer) |
