Douglas's game of the week: Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X. Wow, we're in Double digits now. Now that Final Fantasy X has made a jump to PS2 and a downgrade to 1 disc but with more material, I'd say this game had as much potential as Futurama, Final Fantasy 7 and 8, An Atuls creation, An original Mario Adventure, and anything by Miyazaki. Final Fantasy X-2 has 100 centillion times 10 to the 10 centillionth power times that potential. The game had the most potential, but is it really the best one in the series?

The graphics are at an all time high. They used Life-Size figures here, like they did in FF8 (Strangley, no one is bashing this game because of that. alot of people bashed FF8 becasue it had Life-Size figures, yet some of the same people who bashed FF8 because of that reason are saying that the life-size figures are the best part of the game.

). The monsters look alot better, it's funny to see people like Rikku when they're hasted, and the FMV's are as good as they were in Shining the Holy Ark-And I am serious, Shining the Holy Ark had FMVs this good.

Finally! We have voiceovers! We NEEDED voiceovers a long time ago (Around FF8), and we FINALLY get them. Okay, so some voices need some work, like how Seymour sounds so retarded and how Auron sounds so cool. The boss music, Seymour music, The Airship theme, and Final Battle musics are the best in the game. They're not as great as The Dark Messenger or One Winged Angel or The Extreme, but they're still good.

Final Fantasy X would be a definate 10 if it weren't for Tidus's stupidity (I was practically cheering when he started to disappear), Seymour's supreme moronicness, How weak Bahamut is compared to the previous ones (Yes he is. Compared to the pervious Bahamut summons, he's pathetic! Though thank god for that one Aeon with Oblivion and the Magus Sisters), The Maugs Sister's laziness (TAKING A BREAK?! THIS IS SEYMOUR WE'RE FIGHTING!!), and the worst thing of all in this game: The Sphere Grid. The Sphere grid, among that annoying as hell battle system in FF8 and the GOD-AWFUL leveling up system in Final Fantasy 2 is one of the worst. Ideas. EVER. (It also beats the crap out of Final Ecstasy Legend, Whining Force, Ecstasy Star III, and Nuclear Weapons in the worst Ideas category). The Sphere grid is so ANNOYING!! Sure, there are some good things about it, like teaching Tidus Holy or teaching Yuna to steal or Rikku Curaga, but the fact that it is as literate as a KINDERGARTENER about which way to go in the sphere grid (I had no clue how to understand it even though I read the manual, so when I got to Seymour, my character's health was only at 2500, they were only dealing around 3000-4000 damage, and Tidus didn't even know Haste.) so I almost always accidentially blew my sphere levels going the wrong way and accidentially activiating the wrong spheres.

So now I have an awful headache from the sphere grid and from seeing Seymour do lightning on my party (3000 damage to every party member.

). I did beat it FYI. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention one thing:

Overall, Final Fantasy X isn't a bad game in the end, but I just hate that damn sphere Grid, as well as Tidus's stupidity. (oooh, am I gonna get flamed for this...)
