Douglas's game of the week:Final Fantasy 7

Okay, Final Fantasy 7 by some is the best Final Fantasy. No-You're wrong. The best Final Fantasies are Final Fantasy 4 and 9. Sure, some people who like this game like it for good reasons, and those are the people who go here, but the amount of stupid Final Fantasy 7 hippies are the stupid fanboys like the ones who Inhabit Gamefaqs, the kind who fuss over it like it is some gift from god to mankind, and believe it or not, most of the world thinks that this game is some gift from god to mankind. Final Fantasy 7 is good, but not as good as alot of the world says it is. (And might I point out that these are the kind of people who accuse Fire Emblem of plagirizing Shining Force and that Legend of Dragoon has stolen 85% of its storyline from Final Fantasy 7 and who love Xenogears simply because it is Square-Enix?) Thankfully, those idiots don't go here.

The graphics are spectacular by 1997's standards. The backgrounds are still good-But one other issue I have with the character models is that Barret looks like he swallowed a 4 foot-long-and-wide Cannon Ball and it never passed through his system. Still can't prevent Sephy and Vincent from looking cool or Cait Sith from looking Freaky.

The music is at an all time high. People who give music and sound a 10 are definatley right. The Battle music is the best ever, same with the Jenova Battle music, and One Winged Angel. (Best music on the Playstation until square decided to grace us with the beloved music that is The Dark Messenger in Final Fantasy 9, and in terms of greatness, it's equal to One Winged Angel.) Sure we don't have voices or anything (Brave Fencer Mushashi was the first Action-RPG to have voices, but it came after FF7 so don't complain about no voice-overs), but some of the sound affects make up for it-Keyword some. Aeris's rods make a "Doink"ing sound, like the Weapons in TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan, and if you know me, I hate it when Weapons "Doink" even on soft enemies like Slimes and such. But the other sound affects like a Machine Gun going off or Tifa beating an Enemy silly sound perfect. (Is Barret's gun-arm part of his arm or is it something he slides over his hand?)

Okay-The control. This was back when we didn't have the Analog control stick, so if you're used to it, then it'll be a bit annoying at first, but they control's not badly done-It somehow gets annoying during some mini-games but you still can't beat the awsomeness that is the Mini-Game where Cloud rides on a Motorcycle.

Now then-Replay value. The replay isn't very terrible, you'll definatly want to replay the Motorcycle Chase Scene in the beginning, and I'm sure you probably won't want to fight Ruby or Emerald Weapon again. (I managed to beat Ruby Weapon by the skin of my teeth, but I was never able to beat Emerald Weapon, my sister erased it by "Accident" along with my best file in Ape Escape where I only had to catch one monkey in Specterland and then I would have had 100%.

) There is alot of Replay value here because of the mini-games.

The storyline is pretty addicting at some parts, but other times, you'll kinda be bored with it (And one of the best parts is when Aeris dies. Loser-I never even used her unless I had too) The ending isn't all as great as the ending to Chrono Trigger, the best ending in Magi Nation, and FF9 is, it's not as bad as the ending to FFTA, but it's kind of disappointing like the ending to FFT. (My god-that "FMV" at the end of Final Fantasy Tactics was TERRIBLE! The FMV here is one of the best on the playstation and one of the few reasons to replay this game)

Overall, Final Fantasy 7 isn't at all terrible, nor is it great, it's just not as good as alot of the world says it is. It isn't really a definite 10 or 11 like some fanboys think, but it's just..well, it's not as good as Final Fantasy 4 and 9 was, it's not as bad as Final Fantasy 2 was (Bad Square BAD!! No terrible leveling up system like that!) it's just mediocre-It's inbetween Final Fantasy X (Never EVER make a game hero as dumb as Tidus ever again!) and Final Fantasy 3&5. (Could have been great, but had alot of Fatal Flaws that were never really fixed) Final Fantasy 7 isn't a bad game, it's a good choice to add to your collection, but if you have a PS2 and a PS1 memory card, it's not Mandatory to get like Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 9, and Legend of Dragoon. 7.51/10

For some reason, I never liked FFIX that much. Maybe it was because I was so fixed on that monster slayer contest that I never got a chance to move on. As for FFVII, it was a pretty good game, but it was definitly way overrated.

Cloud would be one of the worst characters if put in Fire Emblem 4. He would be creamed by Ayra because his big sword can't beat 20 attacks IN THE SAME FIGHTING ROUND!!!.

Ever heard of importing/ebay? I have FE on my GBA and it's worthwhile, music on it makes other GBA games want to give a damn about music(playing FE GBA on a emulator is retarded! get the game and feel how playing it on an actual system really feels like).

Try playing FE4 on a rom, it's the Final Fantasyish game that ever became a Fire Emblem(no Fire Emblem or Marth/Roy though)it's music is a symphony.
