Douglas's game of the week: Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga

Holy crap-Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga isn't a remake!! It's an original Mario game!! NOT POSSIBLE!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

...Okay, maybe I was shocked a little too much that Nintendo decided to make something original for once involving our Italian Plumber and, finally, his neglected brother. And this is the first Mario RPG in which Luigi shows his face, but what I'm mad about is that they don't even know Luigi's name! Perhaps Mario's fame is the Noose around Luigi's neck?

The graphics of this game are alot like Paper Mario-Sure they aren't anything like 2D characters in a 3D world like Paper Mario was or 3D like Super Mario RPGs was, but they're very creative. The enemies look very great, especially Fawful. (Who, i may point out, is the best character they introduced here)

The sound here is great-Sure hearing Mario and Luigi making the same jumping noise does get kind of annoying, but the boss music is excellent-Same with the music when you fight Cackletta for the first time. Some of the music is remixed and some is new-And all are great, but still can't beat Laughter (PSIV) or The Dark Messenger.

The control is somewhat new here-The Timed hits are easier to excecute than the ones in Super Mario RPG, and controlling both brothers at the same time isn't as annoying as I thought it would be. Luigi's actions are controlled with the B button and Mario's actions are controlled with the A button. One of the best things is that you can see the enemies walking around and can choose to approach them or not-And if you hit them with the hammer, then they're stunned at the start of the battle giving you an advantage but if they hit you, than either Mario or Luigi is stunned at the start of the battle and you are at the disadvantage.

The storyline is very strange-Peach's voice has been replaced with...Explosives. Yes, explosives. It is pretty funny at parts, especially once Peach says a bunch of stuff and then Mario, Luigi, and Bowser scream and run out of the castle, then there's a gigantic explosion in the castle. Ha. The storyline does take quite a few funny twists, like when Bowser gets suck in a cannon and he says "And leave your Diet jokes to yourself Mario!" or when Bowser's bad luck takes another turn and he gets Amnesia and thinks he's someone else until it takes a turn for the worst and-*bleep-Spoiler alert* Bowser is really having a bad day in this game isn't he?

Overall, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga is a very great game to put on your christmas list. Truthfully, this is a very great game, and it proves that Zelda and Final Fantasy aren't the only good RPG series (And probably the most overrated). 9.50/10

Got the game for my birthday. Very fun.

-A Genius (I hope there's an option to fight bosses again.)
