Each one provides a new level of interactivity to RPGs. I always like seeing Rpgs going into something new. I always want to see unique battle systesm in every one (Or failing that, I like to see bosses that you can't beat by throwing pee cans at it a whole bunch of times and healing. I admit that if there was ever a RPG that allowed you to throw pee cans at bosses, they would all be one hit kills, but Jesus mann, I'd like to see a little more than that! I think I've hit an all new low.). So, what's this game about? Peach's voice gets switched with explosives by a villain that randomly alternates between being a genius and being completely idiotic, and Mario goes out to stop her. Luigi gets brung along. I'm using words that don't exist. "Humoungous." "Ain't." "France." Anyway, Mario and Luigi are helped by a PHAT Queen who makes it her duty to regularly pound the ground, causing the screen to explode. And take a look at her son... This is Prince Peasly. He is a snobby, stuck up, idiotic, son of a ***** who definately deserves every swear word I shout at him. Every time you reach a relevant point in the story, he comes out and explains everything with the STUPIDEST plot devices availible, and every few sentences, he stops and makes the screen turn completely white, except for him. Why does he do this? I DON'T KNOW. He sucks. Okay, that's all I can tell you about the story without giving away spoilers (the plot gets pretty weird in the last half of the story). So now on to the important stuff. The battles have more elements that I'm willing to explain in a review, so I'll go over the basics. As always in a Mario RPG, you can time your hits right to do more damage. In the past games, you could also block the enmies attacks to recieve less damage. In this game, you can dodge their attacks altogether and counterattack! These games get more Mario-istic with every one. You also control both brothers at the same time, which is not always easy. sometimes, you have just a split second to figure out which one needs to jump. All these things are what make it fun, though. Outside battles, you hit enemies with first strikes and avoid getting hit yourself. Same as in PM. The puzzles outside battle are generally easy, and you won't have trouble unless you're a mentally and sexually retarded 2-year old with lobster tails instead of arms and 86 eyes, all different shapes and colors, and they don't even work. And it's difficult. I don't know how many times it took me do win the first battle with Cackletta, but it took me a lot. And I was seemingly stuck FOREVER on some of the *********s. Some of the *********s are much tougher than we're used to seeing. I still have no idea why I had so much trouble beating ***. Graphics are great. The animations are very nice. The Soda monster was particularily impressive. The music didn't stay in my head, though. Oh well. Now listen, I have an improtant message to you all, Prince Peasly MUST be destroyed. He is the spawn of evil, the SON OF THE DEVIL. If he ever appears in anyt more Nintendo games, the world is doomed to a horrible destruction at the firey claws of the demon-sultan Azathoth and the outer gods, whose soul and messenger is Nyarlathotep. KILL PRINCE PEASLY!!!!! Graphics: Impressive. Great animations. Music/Sound: Eh. Overall: 8/10 -A Genius (Allons enfants de la Patrie, le jour de gloire est arrivé!) [ January 02, 2004, 10:22 AM: Message edited by: A Genius is stoopit ] |
