May 21, 2002 - After ages of rumors and suppositions, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is official. The first GTA game to be published under the franchise's new exclusivity agreement with SCEA, Vice City brings the immersion and interactivity of Grand Theft Auto to a new time and place. It's the '80s, the setting is Vice City, "the vibe is glamour, power, and corruption" (Rockstar's words, not ours), and that's about it as far as details go, although more news will be released in July. There is a precise release date, however: October 22.
GTA producer Les Benzies stated, "Although it may appear to be a challenge to develop a game superior to Grand Theft Auto 3, our progress to date on Vice City makes me highly confident that we can deliver a truly innovative game." Kelly Sumner, Take-Two Interactive Software's Chief Executive Officer added, "Grand Theft Auto 3 has become the "must-have" title for PlayStation(R)2 and is appropriately regarded as a landmark in interactive entertainment. We are delighted with the plans for Vice City, and are totally committed to supporting Rockstar's creative efforts and investing in the development and marketing approach that made Grand Theft Auto 3 such a tremendous success."

Expect more news on Vice City for sure in July, and we'll try and dig up a few odds and ends while we're at E3 this week.
In other news, the GTA franchise in now EXCLUSIVE to Sony.

I hope you get to become a big crime lord like Al Pacino in Scarface

Start off as a low life thug mugging people and doin odd-jobs, then work your way up and eventually having a massive mansion and your own band of thugs

how great would that be!?

It'd be cool if you can change the story flow through the missions you do. Like as you work for The Mafia. 3 people appear who give you jobs. Person A gives you jobs that deal with group B. And so on. However instead of being able to do all the missions from all 3 guys, by choosing one of them the missions that you can get from them change to fit who you went against the first time.

To try and put it more clearly.

Person A gives you a job to deal with Group B. After accomplishing the mission, Person B and C no longer will give you a job to go after another group. They will send you on more missions against group B.

Just an idea I think would be cool.

That could be cool I guess. It might add more replay value, as you'd have to play through a few times to get all of the missions.

I didn't like the fact that despite the fact you took out the Triads main base and killed their leaders...they were still around. I expected the Mafia to take over that area and patrol the streets.

I would like it if you could have several ppl you control, not directly, but go up to them and give them jobs, not ones given to you, but If your pissed off at a group/gang, you could tell them to kill some, take weapons and money, and report back to base, and if they dont give it all to you, you could kill them and hire another person, or maybe hes a cop in disguise, you would never know, you could come back to your base and it surronded by cops. btw, motocycle would kick!

I think it would be pretty cool if this was in the game. At the start the mafia controls a portion of town. And they are surrounded by other gangs. I think if you go on enemy turf and keep up attacks you can allow the group your working for to move in and take control.
