If they just focused on one version, they'd have had it out in time for the holidays plus got some free money in the process, all while releasing the other version around the same time as they're going to now. __________________ Everything's okay in the end. Historically, timed exclusives sell a lot less well on the second system that they come out on (see RE4 for the PS2, or Viewtiful Joe, etc.), and throwing away the majority of possible sales on the much, much larger installbase of the 360 would be ludicrous. It'll still sell a bazillion copies - a simultaneous release means that they just don't piss off one section of gamers more than the other, so they don't run the risk of any kind of backlash. |

Those sales wouldn't disappear in most cases... they'd either wait or buy the first one that comes out. GTA3 launched on an installed base of 4 million and did quite well for itself. In terms of percentage of userbase and what it would have sold had it not been on Gamecube, PS2 RE4 performed poorly, but it still outsold the Gamecube version. __________________ Everything's okay in the end. Granted RE4 sold 400k more on the PS2, I guess I have to take that back to some degree. Still, if they want the most sales they will go for a simultaneous release, because more sales means more people who will inevitably buy the sequel. Sony would have to drop a lot of money to make a timed exclusive worth it, and they can't really do too much of that now considering how much cash they're hemorrhaging. |
