i dunno how often i'll do these, depending on how succesful it is, but i'll try to do one once in awhile

what system works the best for you? There are many different types. Strategic(FFT, tactics ogre, shining force), real time(secret of mana, zelda*), ATB, Final Fantasy, First person, and some others that i forgot)

I like the strategic. Yea it takes awhile, but it lets you move around, and get a team of allies. Plus it involves more strategy. Real time lets you move around, but its hard to control multiple people at once. ATB is dull and overused in my opinion and i've only seen first person used in the rpg maker and its not very good. Chrono trigger's was fun, enemies moving around so you had to wait for the right oppurtunity to be able to hit more opponents(in some cases anyway) chrono cross's elemnt thing was pretty cool and so is Legend of Legia, which was kind of like a fighting game, pressing differnt buttons to make differnt combos. Anyway, thats just my opinion. How about you guys?

Well, I like 'em all. In all of them, you use strategy to beat up your opponents. As long as that is present, it doesn't suck.

For example, if all you're doing is pressing 'confirm' and then seeing a graphic of your character lunge at the enemy (or not even that), it's not very fun at all. That's why many people hate turn-based battles, because it's just so easy for it to degenerate into that.

Even though it's off topic...

1) Haste, Regen; very important. Barrier/Mbarrier also important, but not nescessary.
2) Ribbon accessory: very important. Put it on the character that has the restore and heal materia (paired with All), a good Enemy Skill (esp. a healing one), or you can use something like a Megalixir. So, that Super Nova attack will only put that character at critical, so he or she can heal everyone up!
3) This is the final battle, so make sure that you've equipped everyone's final weapon (even though they have no materia growth, who cares? it's the last battle). Mastered materia also work well here.
4) Also, since it's the last battle, use up those Megalixers, Elixer, Turbo Potions, Turbo Ethers, etc.

Also use up Power/Mind/Speed/etc. sources, but before the battle.

Note: a useful enemy skill is Big Guard, stolen from Beach Plugs (manipulate them, then cast it on you to learn it). Casts Haste and Barrier and MBarrier on ALL your allies.

ATB means Active Time Battle. Stuff like Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, Chrono Trigger, etc. where after a period of time elapses a character can perform one action.
