Star Ocean 3 problems

I've been playing a lot of Star Ocean 3 again lately, but I seem to have run into some problems and I have no idea what's wrong. Right now I am at the Shrine of Kadden, and unexplainably, the third party member of my group refuses to do anything. I know for a fact that they are on auto, and I have tried swapping party members numerous times, but all they do is stand there and avoid combat. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Do they get better once you finish that place? Or are they permanently stuck?

All I remember is how much I hated that place, especially when you have to go back there near the end of the game. -CSM
