Say goodbye to any hopes of Earthbound on the Virtual Console

STARMEN.NET - EarthBound on Virtual Console

In short, it has nothing to do with fan support - Nintendo probably gets our picture now (aka they know EB will be immensely popular and profitable) - but it has to do with NoA's lawyers with their heads up their asses thinking with all the pop culture references in the game they could get sued, knowing how companies cross the line when it comes to protecting their IP and don't know what fair use is.

GOD DAMN THE LAW! -CSM

It won't help. It's simple, if one team removes the stick up their ass, we'll get it on the VC. It doesn't get any more complicated than that.

Earthbound in the US is like some dramatic, tragic romance. Or something.

All right, first things first---I don't really care all that much about 'Earthbound', so this doesn't affect me much. I hate it for you guys, but that's about it.

That said, I think it's pretty contemptible and spineless of Nintendo to be so afraid of lawsuits that they won't rerelease the game. Hell, it's only been out fourteen years--I'd say that, if anyone in this litigious society were going to sue Nintendo for copyright violation (or whatever the hell), it would long since have happened already.

Surprisingly the Earthbound fanbase isn't so up in arms.

But then again, seeing how often they've been slapped in the face by Nintendo and HAL studios....

It's because they know that it's not Nintendo's fault initially. Why flame them because of the lawyers being jackasses? At first, they were, but this piece of evidence atleast proves why Nintendo isn't doing it right away.

However, there's no reason for them not to have released SSB on the VC already.

Copyright laws go way too far.

So please try to break them regularly.

Time to start harassing lawyers! This is something I've ALWAYS wanted to do.

Bomby: Copyright laws lost any meaningful purpose about the time Jack Valenti came onto the scene. That was also around the time people started suing everyone for stupid little things. -CSM

Quick poll guys/girls:
Who do you think Nintendo employees are more creeped out by - Bob from Bob's Game or the typical Mother fan?

I thought that parady wasn't in violation of copyright law. Or am I mistaken about that?

They haven't ignored us, apparently. Apparently both NoA and NCL want to release EB, but the legal team won't let them.

Psycho: it is. It VERY STRONGLY is. But unfortunately our culture has denigrated into what Tomato calls a "sue happy" culture, where people sue people for anything and everything, especially in the entertainment industry, where about 80% of the lawsuits are frivolous and a good chunk of the rest are against people who are completely innocent. And the lawyers make a TON of money off of them. I actually blame part of the economic collapse on these numerous lawsuits. They have a horrible impact on our economy and create a culture of fear.

This culture of fear is what's driving Nintendo's lawyers. So much of the parody is so close to some actual content, especially music-wise, that they're so afraid the RIAA, which is the KING of frivolous lawsuits (so much that they probably make a lot of money that way), will sue them. And these lawyers are paid big bucks to most likely prevent lawsuits from happening, not get sued and go to court and say "this is why this lawsuit is total crap."

It's horrible, but it's the truth. The good news, though, is at least we know the root of the problem, so we can go about solving it. It will be VERY difficult, but we have to recruit people en masse in order for it to be effective. And these are my words, not Tomato's or anyone else's. We have to change the culture. -CSM

Wait...don't they think some of the songs sound like a Monty Python theme? Isn't that public domain?
