WHOA whoa whoa sequels =/= better game. Unless you actually think that FF10 is the best in the series because Square produced X-2 as a sequel to it.

FFIV got a sequel because it benefited from a remake, and got people interested. I guarantee if VI were in it's place, the same would happen.

Eh, the only reason they remade 4 over 6 is basically because it wasn't as complete as 6, anyway. More room to work with, essentially. 4 didn't have beautiful background art that would be difficult to live up to, and it certainly didn't have the artistic taste of palette found in VI. Overall, the game itself was not nearly so grand in scope. As a remake, it just makes sense, because there was less of everything in it.

VI kind of err...finished the story now didn't it? If I recall, Final Fantasy IV's games had only around 25% of the intended script.

Well, let's look at FF4, FF7, and FF10. They all had sequels, and are all among the most popular of the FF series, along with FF6 (which, itself, got a tech demo for the N64). FF4 had a remake and a sequel, FF7 is like the FF poster child, and FF10 got a sequel. So while just having sequels doesn't make the game better, it proves that it was at least good enough to get a sequel.

You may be right though, if FF6 got a remake, it'd probably get a sequel.

^^ I don't think so. Final Fantasy is about story, and it always has been. Maybe FF6 looked better, but that's partially due to technical limitations. However, If we're comparing stories, not to knock on FF6 (I liked it too), but FF4 was much more grand. FF4 could be made into a movie, good sir, and I cannot say the same for FF6.

I strongly disagree, I actually preferred DC2 to DC1, although that may be because I have fonder, more nostalgic memories of DC2. Me and my friend beat it at around the same time, attached a lot of late-childhood sentimentality to it all... It stands as one of my favorites of all time just because of that.

^ Very understandable. There are a number of games that are special to me due to nostalgia, certain memories and experiences, and whatnot. I only say that DC is better than DC2 because I found it to be more original, and I enjoyed the characters a lot. I also found the art to far superior. Not only that, but it was a very different experience from anything I've played before.

Sorry for lack of spoiler tags but I think both games are old enough that spoiler tags arn't needed.

While I dissagree that FFIV has the better story I'll just say that I think that FFVI's story was more, consistent with it's Villian. If I recall right the spot of "Big Bad" changed sevral times, first it was "King Baron," then, Goblez, and finaly it was Zemirous. (Ah mind controll the go to plot device of FFIV.) Granted it's been way past five years scince my last playthrough of FFIV.

As for what I'd love to see Square do but will never happen, that would be a remake of FFVI in full 3D(I'd even settle for PSX/1 graphics), or a continuation of it's storyline as I think that there is a lot of potental in the rebuilding of the world.

I found FF6's story to be big and open, but flat. Not bad, but if we think of them in movie terms, a director would certainly choose to make a FF4 movie.

I think FFIV had better overall characters, but FFVI had a better overall plot and gameplay.

I talked to a lot of people who say they'd be interested in an FFVI 3D remake.

And having a sequel doesn't make a game good. In fact, more often than not, it breaks a game's greatness. FFVII, which was a great game whose main flaw initially was having to follow FFVI, was broken this way due to mainly Advent Children (and the amount of publicity AC received was way more than FFXII had). -CSM

I would love to get a remake of FF6 all the way. Then watch as my friends struggle with the blitz system. Now its been a long time since I've played an FF game but did they ever bring back a blitz-like system in any other FF game?

On the actual topic I'd say the SMRPG and Paper Mario are high ranked in my rpg list but not in the top 10. But Most of the tactics games I play are there just because Fire Emblem and Front Mission are so epic. Front Mission 4 top 10 rpg list.

Well, for starters I'll have to disagree with you on the story. FF4's story was a bit undeveloped, IMO. And we're talking about the production of a game here. The story doesn't really need to be touched in a remake. The visuals, audio, and the battle engine had a ton of room for improvement, though. It just makes sense as a remake, whereas FF6 has a lot more to live up to in terms of audio/visual as well as ease of use, if you're considering remakes. It also has found a larger audience, and that means more people to keep satisfied. Meanwhile, if less have played FF4, then a remake is like a brand new game to them - it's likely to appeal to a larger variety of people, having been under-exposed over time. Since FF6 is considered the game to play as far as the FF series goes on the SNES, it would naturally be more closely scrutinised.

Am I the only person who disliked FF7 enough to quit playing it? Sure, maybe it's just me, but something that retardedly contrived was just... ugh. I couldn't possibly force myself to continue playing it.

For FF6, I doubt any company would run the risk of angering a huge fanbase by remaking one of their best games of all time. Simply put, they haven't made anything in the FF series recently that would compliment the original style of 6, so they're much safer just leaving the game as the fantastic work of art is was than try to top that effort and possibly screw up so badly that they alienate tens of thousands of people.

Sequels don't necessarily mean anyone likes a game. I'm sure there is a fanbase for FF4, but it's not like that is the pivotal point in making a sequel. FF10 blows, for instance.

As for SMRPG, it was neat, but doesn't have nearly so much replay value as tonnes of other RPGs I've played, nor does it rank very highly in my list of favourites. I prefer my RPGs to be a lot more serious overall (cut the cutesy characters, for starters), even if the humour was pretty rad.

It's weird because CRPG means both "console RPG" and "computer RPG", so I'll have to... agree.

Hey, I stomached FFVIII, and am actually considering playing it again (so I can abuse the damn thing....)

I think Square does know we're a lot tougher and a lot harder to please than FFVII fanboys, mainly because we actually don't judge books by their cover.

FFIV's fanbase is mainly Japanese (it's one of the most popular games in Japan), although it has a growing fanbase in North America.

And FFX does NOT suck. FFX-2 is the one that sucked. -CSM

Everything sucks. Given that we all have such wildly opposing tastes, I'm surprised that a game would sell more than ten copies.

SMRPG is great, but it's no FF6/FF4/Chrono Trigger/Mother 3/etc.
