How could they not have Snow White? I would think Disney princesses would be the FIRST ones they'd include....if they knew Val was going to be the first to buy them.... -CSM

Snow White isn't technically a princess until the end of the movie.

Nintendo never liked their franchise being made into a turn-based RPG and I don't think Square would want to retro-create a new game for the company at this point anyway.
Square has evolved beyond wanting to use other franchises for their hits? Kingdom Hearts doesn't exist, or...?

And Nintendo loves their turn-based Mario now, so I don't agree with you anywhere on this.

plus square doesn't actually make good jrpgs anymore
SMRPG wasn't just Mario thrown into an RPG; it was tailored around him and was innovative at the time.

Square makes fine games.

No, man, she starts out as a princess. She's living in a castle, and her stepmother is a queen.

Considering how much hype there is around it, it'd be nearly impossible to make. Especially with all the culture aliens complaining about games that are turn-based, and how people were complaining about Final Fantasy X being turn-based.

Also, good luck getting it past the "It's Too much LIKE Super Mario RPG, therefore it sucks!" or "It's not enough like Super Mario RPG therefore it sucks".

Erego I doubt they'd ever try making a direct sequel to it, especially with a lot of staff changes and how the standards in gaming have pretty much changed.

Oh but they DO. Birth by Sleep is just giving her a more important role and featuring her world. Because it takes place 10 years before Kingdom Hearts did, the "Events" that take place in her world will happen, including what looks to be one of the coolest boss fights ever. By Kingdom Hearts, she was already captured and used as a cosmic keystone. (Although if one sequence-breaks early in the game and completes Deep Jungle before Neverland, you actually see Snow White getting captured instead of Alice.) So rather...they had her, they just didn't give her a central role beyond NPC you can speak to and Cosmic Keystone.

I can agree that Square and Enix both ain't what they used to be as far as relevance and creativity go, but it looks like you're neglecting a lot here.

SMRPG managed to create a lot of concepts unique to SMRPG, not just Mario or RPG's. It also set the standard for the battle system that pretty much every Mario RPG game has used since. Just because it didn't have some stupid plot that revolved around Koopa's obsession with being a jackass doesn't make it somehow more generic.

To humor the "generic jrpg" crap, since when have you not been collecting crap in most Mario games? As far as the story elements go, it derives heavily from the star road in SMW. The seven stars are a better plot than rescuing Toadstool for the 90th time. Besides, Mario's been collecting **** starting most recognizably with SMB3.I can't say I've really seen any characters resembling Geno or Mallow in any other game, and I think the whole part with Booster is 100% great original Mario-style character and plot.

If anything the other games are just becoming less relevant in succession as much as Square is as a company. Back when SMRPG came out, I would've loved a sequel. Nintendo was following Miyamoto off into lala land, though, and turned out Paper Mario. Decent game? Maybe, but not particularily compelling considering the history of the series and the genre.

And why can Square not make Square-style games? If you don't like that, no problem, but the whole problem with JRPGs as a whole is that they are all made in imitation of Square or Enix.

Considering your weak JRPG argument even further, the game's lacking a romantic sub plot, an overworld with random battles, a catastrophic and yet obvious plot twist, airship or any kind of air travel... It really seems like what you're missing about SMRPG is that it lampoons standard RPG story elements. Did you really take Mallow's orphan status, and his thinking he was a frog to be a serious effort in the direction of a JRPG cliche? Do you think Bowser being over turned in the first 2 minutes of the game was an attempt at a serious "the head bad guy isn't the real head badguy" archetype?

And this supposed lack of "Mario" elements... in what other RPGs exactly do you jump around the world hitting blocks? Travel via green pipes? Ride Yoshi dinosaurs? How exactly do you think Mario's actions were defined in game, in canon up to that point? SMRPG invented Mario's personality, in game. It was unprecedented and has since been overshadowed by whatever the hell it is you think makes a Mario game.

Meh . . . in the end, would the general Mario consumer really accept a new Martio RPG? Only real way I could see it working is if it was on the Nintendo DS, which if that the platform I think there could be a chance for it, Square and Nintendo have a pretty good handheld relationship it seems.

On an actual console though . . . it seems it would either be underwhelming, or overwhleming, either they wouldn't use enough graphics and the game would look subpar, or it would be overblown like Final Fantasy XIII and wouldn't look like a real Mario Game.

How about they start off with a SMRPG remake? Everyone loves a good remake, seriously. From there, it could garner support for a sequel.

Who wouldn't like to see SMRPG remade on the Wii? It couldn't really fail, and if they're that scared, they can fall back on making it a WiiWare title.

Because a remake would be a fully 3D, in-every-way-enhanced version. And remakes happen on a constant basis, and I can't think of a better RPG to receive this treatment.

Fire Emblem just got a remake for the DS, so it happens, and the game is very good.

FFVI/6 was remade twice and the closets it got to 3D were the FMV cutscense in the PSX/1 remake. I'll give you that FFIII/3 got a much better overhall when it came stateside though.
