You, your guard, and your other mages and crossbowmen run to the other side of the fort and prepare to fire. The enemy archers and horse archers fire at your knights, but their arrows mostly miss, with a couple bouncing off the knights' heavy armor. Their pegasus archers rain arrows upon your troops on the eastern wall, taking out all of the crossbowmen and archers that were shooting at them. Alex's crossbowmen and three types of archers fire. You see about a score of enemy cavalry fall, and a little over twice as many infantry. Your spy, who has landed on your eastern wall, communicates that the knights on the eastern flank are wreaking havoc. They've taken out eight horse archers and eleven archers, which amounts to half of what remained. The spy himself is taking cover against a parapet. The enemy horsemen burst through the gate, but your pikemen are ready. Over forty horsemen meet their ends at the braced pikemen's spearpoints, and not one of your pikes fall. The remaining horsemen continue to stream through the gate. The enemy infantry, which you estimate at a somewhat startling 150, are about to follow. Alex's knights are preparing to charge through the gates as soon as the horsemen are dealt with. Your gargoyle riders take to the air and hurl themselves at the pegasus archers, who are taken by surprise. All ten gargoyle riders manage to impale or knock off a pegasus archer. Your orders? Rest of Crossbowmen and Guard: Cover my back and shoot the pegasus archers. Gargoyle Riders: Attack pegasus archers. Knights: Finish off the ranged units then go around to help Alex's troops. |

Half the crossbows and the guard shoot at the pegasus archers. The guard and six of the crossbowmen hit. Alex's long-range units fire and then take cover, most of them hitting soldiers. The spy signals that all of the enemy units on the eastern flank have broken ranks and are fleeing the field. The pegasus archers above the fort split into different directions, firing back at the gargoyle riders. Four of them actually hit their targets, but only two actually fall to the ground-- the other two's gargoyles manage to catch them, barely alive. The gargoyles coast down to your three idle healers at the inner keep, who heal their riders up. The enemy horsemen continue to pound against your pikemen, but the line holds. Two pikemen fall, but as soon as they do, Alex's knights stream through the gap, finishing off the remaining horsemen and trampling over mercenaries and soldiers. A few of Dyrn's braver soldiers actually manage to unhorse three knights, who are knocked out but appear to be alive. Your gargoyle riders chase after the pegasi, but they're too fast. Your troops are rallying, and Dyrn's are becoming more disheartened by the minute. If you wish, you can ask for quarter (their surrender), or simply give more orders. Your commands? |

Knights: Go to attack the infantry. Gargoyle Riders: Split up and attack the pegasus archers. Half of the Pegasus Archers: Attack the enemy pegasus archers. |

The enemy has surrendered. You have won. They leave their weapons at the fort and agree to exit peacefully to Dyrn. You return to Kruuambin. For your skill and valor, a General promotes you to Strategist. Congratulations! You receive 1500 gold for your defense of the fort, and another 3000 for your promotion. Also, you may split 200 points between your stats. Spend that gold, and you can receive orders. |

If you want to make it easier, just cut out either the gargoyles or pikemen, or you can make it tougher and drop some other expenses. |

Remiurn wants to gain a small gold mine near the Dyrnish border. As could be expected, it is fairly heavily guarded. You are to attack a nearby town, Brostan, in the hopes of drawing them away. You will be granted an extra 2,000 gold to spend on troops for this mission alone, as you must beat back the first contingent that is sent. Any way you can, appear to be a greater threat than you are. Once enough of the guard is drawn out, a High Commander will bring in forces of his own to the gold mine. If he is successful, and you make it out in one piece, you will receive 7,500 gold. If either leg fails, the higher-ups will be somewhat displeased. Do you accept? |

You march across the Dyrnish border unmolested. The ground-walled town of Brostan seems a peaceful little place, but your nationalist pride and sense that you are doing the right thing overrides any skepticism you may have. You have been ordered to sack the town. How do you wish to proceed? |

You notice several riders going towards the gold mine. The town is yours. What do you want to do? Enter the town and defend it? Stay outside the walls? Advance towards the mine? Remember, you are to appear as great a threat as possible while still winning the battle. |
