Kagami: Yes!

For a brief moment, you see confusion registering on the young man's face. Then there is an instantaneous, soundless shift of surroundings. You blink a few times and shake your head. Once you regain your composure, you peer around yourself. You are in a valley at the bottom of a knoll scattered with patches of dead brown grass. Behind you, ahead of you, and to each side lay similar hills. Onus is lying beside you.

Onus: The first thing you feel is a sense of emptiness. Some new part of your mind that you'd barely had time to grow used to has left. Then you feel warmth and relief flooding through your body, as well as the knowledge that you've been granted a second chance. Someone has shown you mercy. You look around and find the same surroundings as Kagami does. Your companion is crouched beside you.

What do you want to do?

On second glance, you notice a dark opening in one of the nearby hills. There are traces of passage leading into it, as well as the top of one hill to the top of another. The traces start downward, but the hill obscures the rest of them.

You also spot something glinting in the grass a few yards from where you're standing. Do what?

Kagami: It's a short knife. Not a fancy one, and the edge is pretty dull, but the point is still fairly sharp, and the whole blade is rust-free. The haft is simple maplewood. There are faint patches of dried blood running down the whole thing.

Onus: The opening is clearly an entrance into a cave, as you can tell from the light drafts blowing by. You're not sure how deep it is, but you can't see the far end, and it's broad daylight.

What do you want to do?
