Cysma scans the area. For a split second he thinks that he does sense evil forces around him.

(Please read your PMs Cysma.)

The area seems not to be trapped. No spies in the forest. No evil forces at bay. Just a long simple winding road through the forests and to the two nearest cities. Following the road, the tracks are becoming more and more difficult to distinguish from the regular traffic on the route. A cold wind whirls about, as the sun sets lower and lower into the sky.

Zerra turns toward the party asking, "Do we want to make camp out here tonight? Or keep walking in the dark? Either way I-".
She stumbles mid step. Glancing downward, the little remaining sunlight glitters on a shiny metallic object that caused her to trip. She reaches down, dusting herself off and grabs the object. A jingle bell. From a child's toy of some sort...

((Each member of party: 50 exp for exploration/RPing etc..))

((Each member of party: go back through the thread -- your posts only--. And give yourself 5 exp for each time you used a skill relevant to your class OR character. Ie. Paladin - detect evil/lay on hands. Ranger- tracking etc.))

Cysma's XP: 60/1000

Cysma glanced toward Zerra, then to the object she had discovered, both with a look of suspicion.

"If we found this thing here, there might be something else nearby..."

Search check.

Searching through the brush where the jingle bell was last seen, Cysma spies another bell, and a dropped bloody blade. Suddenly the entire party hears a sound from just beyond the next bend of the road. The familiar sound of clopping horse hooves on the road in the distance. The rider continues forward and now more clearly into view, it is not , in fact, a rider, but a centaur, moving at a furious rate of speed.

Seeing the party ahead of him, he quickly tries to stop before collision, ending with an abrupt cloud of dust and dirt flying into the air. His hair is long and wavy pulled back into a thick billowing (no pun intended) ponytail. He is wearing a sash of blue and black designs. Strapped to his chest is a very elaborately created short sword. In very thickly accented elven he speaks:

"Bid me passage, fellow travelors. I bring news to the village beyond these hills, and it is gravely urgent. Please, step aside"

(Perhaps I should set Cysma's spoken languages? With a +2 INT modifier, I would get two additional languages other than Common. Would it be fair if one of them was Elven, even though I'd just be taking advantage of a present opportunity? The other language would either be Draconic or Celestial. Or perhaps be able to understand Elven, but not speak it?)

(I'm still here, just through Acradius's computer as mine no longer has interweb access. Also, the relevant skills for a sorcerer are scry, spellcraft, knowledge Arcana, and concentration, right?)

Languages: Common, Elven, (Infernal?) Bonus languages: Dragonic, Sylvan, (Undercommon?)

"Calm down, friend traveller." Tala unbuckles his waterskin and uses prestidigitation to make the water taste sweet and fresh.
Untrained Knowledge: Royalty, To check the social status of this centaur.
"Drink, drink, we were just getting ready to set up camp anyway, were't we?"

Damn, a gnome.

(Correct.)

Tala realizes that the centaur is a relation of a local royal family, but not one of much political power at the moment.

The centaur accepts the water, emptying the flask in a single gulp before handing it back.

"My fellow adventuring party and I were traveling in Archron," The centaur proceeds to clumsily gives directions from the point you stand. They seem to match up with the crudely drawn map that was discovered on the goblins.

As the centaur begins to tell his tale, Zerra and the 'less active' characters spend some time setting up the campsite and fire for the nights meal.

"A former companion of ours resides in that town. We hoped we could arrive there before it was to late." He glances up at the smoke far off in the distance. "I believe that we are to late.

"We?" asks one of the people setting up camp.

"They'll be along shortly. I was the fastest of us." He frowns. "They wanted a horse and cart. Thought it would be faster."

"We have encountered this sort of thing before. When the four of us heard rumor that 'he' was looking for someone in this city, I raced here as fast as I could. We knew that....well...we wanted to try to warn Perelon before...."

The centaur stops, taking a breath. "I had hoped the wizard would have been able to hold his own and defend the town, but.." He's staring at the smoke in the sky again. "It's already been burned off. A wise decison."

"I'll keep things vague. Years ago, my companions were northward of here, on a quest to locate a treasure for the king of a far off nation. Our journey took us to a small village much like the one you have just travelled from. The killer had slain everyone in the town and ripped their flesh off. We managed to track him through a few cities but lost him as soon as we hit the wilderness. It's almost as though he vanished."

The party sits or lounges around the campfire as the centaur continues with his story. It is growing dark, and the nighttime sounds are filling the air. Crickets, owls, far off in the distance wolf cries.

"We have seen the man once or twice since, but it will do little good. He always looks different, but I know..I KNOW who he is." The centuars voice roars for a moment, and the nighttime sounds stop almost completely for a moment. "Sorry.."

Zerra prompts him, "Please go on.."

"He is well dressed for a travelor. His clothing is well taylored. Hand dyed with care. The thread... I could not say, but Perelon-rest his soul-always suggested had magical properties, called it..um..." He shakes his head, "Doesn't matter. It's magical. The clothing has almost a leather texture, made from the skins of his victims. That's all you need to know. And his face..always with a mask. We have never seen his real facial skin, but in the eyes. These are eyes of a madman...a sociopath..."

Down the road, suddenly the party can hear hooves. From around the same bend, appears a cart being driven by a short figure. From inside the cart someone else is yelling, flailing about "Stop this crazy thing! Slow down! What are you trying to do, kill me?!?" A second voice gleefully cries out, "Wheeeeeee".

The centaur rolls his eyes. "That would be them..."

The cart pulls up along side the party, where the centaur sarcasticly greets them with;
"I rush ahead to attend the serious matters as usual, and you two idiots go on an obnoxious, loud, joy ride through dark forests, at night, where there could be monsters, so that they'll try to eat you, so I can rescue you. Nice as usual."

From inside the cart, comes a low moan, and sounds of nausia. The gruff voice responds. "And as usual sir... It was all the gnome's idea." A dwarven face pops over the top of the cart looking down. (Long brown beard, brown hair, brown eyes, carrying a hammer.)

The driver of the cart, hops down (and its a good distence down, considering his size...) "Well that's because the horses-ass refuses to let us ride on him!" The gnome has large blue eyes and a short white beard. He wears a large jewl around his neck.

"I am NOT a horse!" grumbles the centaur loudly, "If you'd just grow longer legs and learn to run faster, I wouldn't have to be the fighter part of this opperation."

"Cure me, you stumpy little bastard," comes the dwarf from the cart. "Pray to your stupid god, and make me not sick anymore."

The gnomes eyes widen, "HOW DARE YOU!" He crosses his arms in disgust.
The centuar turns to the gnome, "If you made him sick, you really ought to cure him."
"No." pouts the gnome.

The centuar turns back to the rest of the party...."I'm sorry. This is why I went on ahead without them."

Cysma sighed and stared at the ground for a moment. "This reminds me of an adventuring group I once travelled with in the past. There was an Orc Barbarian that would always act first and think later, if ever...another dwarf that drank ale by the barrel...but worst of all was that some of my companions were evil. Due to the circumstances, I had to team up with a Mind Flayer, a Necromancer, and an evil bard. That bard was a human woman, though she had feathers for some reason...

The centuar nods sympatheticly, "These two, they're not evil. Just stupid. The dwarf was hired on as my royal advisor, and the gnome...well how one gets a gnome... that's a whole other story."

The gnome makes another, "Hmmmph." and continues pouting.

"Anyway, we were on our way to warn our companion, but it seems he is long dead."
The gnomes eyes widen, "You've already told them about Jack?"

The centaur and dwarf shoot him a death-glare, the gnome shrugs.

Zerra pipes up, "You know his name?"

"He was our fifth," says the gnome again, this time getting punched by the dwarf and nearly knocked on his ass.
The centuar frowns, "He's not Jack anymore." he turns to the party explaining,
"While we were on the quest I spoke of earlier, I neglected to mention that we did in fact, find the treasure the king sought out. A gem, and an enchanted one at that. Jack (being our bard) tried to disarm the trap, but failed and a curse was placed upon him. We have learned this information from other stories and legends about this gem."

The dwarf pipes up, "We've taken him to clerics, to sages, to wizards, but none have been able to dispell such a horrid curse. It took a great deal of efforts to contain him for these vists, however he broke free and has been on a murderous rampage since then. We're tracking him to the best of our ability, but as you can see.." he glances back to his gnome and centaur companions, "We're not the best outfit for such a task."

"Rumors in Archron told us that a crazy-masked-jester-bard had been sighted near this village, so we tried to get here, but ...." adds the gnome.

"Perhaps you would join us in our quest, to find our former companion and stop him, cure him if possible, so he can stand trial for his crimes," suggests the centaur. "My comrades and I could head back to Archron, or Orthos. You could go the opposite way, perhaps one group could find him? Or we could corner his path in the swamps?"

(I'm going on a cruise all of next week, I'll be back around May 14 I believe, in the meantime, here's my compensation for my future absence).

Deslyon sat by the fire and picked through a few of the twigs as he listened to the story of the new party that approached them earlier. They provided useful information of the wherabouts and the nature of the murderer. However, as outgoing this party may be, a few occurences struck Deslyon.

"So this psychopathic killer is one of their friends? And they want to try and cleanse this guy of evil? Their personal problems could jepardize our lives, He's be better put to rest for unspeakable horrors this man has committed. No one would ever forgive him for his crimes, save this small band of friends."

He glanced at the three newcomers one more, the centaur catching his eye.

"However, that man has some mass. His brutality could solidify our success in catching the maniac as well. Man... that guy would be an incredible asset to our group."

He turned to the Centaur and made his decision aloud.

"Hi, I'm Deslyon. You have a quite a remarkable party. Together, we could apprehend your companion and save him from his ruthelessness, whether by force or by restorative means."

(Of course, do me a favor and make sure my character doesn't conk out at this camp site until I get back lol. If we come across a battle, some one could control him. Who I don't care. Adio for now).

Cysma looked up at the sky as best he could, what with all the trees obscuring the view.

"So night shall be falling..." He mumbled to himself, and thought...
Tonight, I must speak with either Deslyon or Elliot, if not both, on a very important matter...concerning Zerra...

(Come to think of it, I get used to having different DMs rotate in the same campaign! Several times in my D&D club, I have been assigned a different DM. They'd often stick to the same campaign, but a plot twist would occur to send it in an entirely different direction upon their debut.

Just wanted to say that. Didn't want us to change the subject, though.)

The centuar examines the gem that Tala had found earlier. "Not bad, right merchant comes along, and this will pay for your traveling expenses for a month." He hands it off to the gnome for a moment.

"Oh, its magical! It's magical! Nothing special or cursed or anything neat like that, but if you turn it just so, it should light up all on its own." the gnome announces to the rest of the party, "A nice piece though! Very trendy."

The party settles for the night around their campfire. The howling of wolves in the distance echos about the forest. Zerra has retired to her own tent and has fallen asleep. The gnome and dwarf have climbed back into the cart (the dwarf snores loudly). The centaur announces he will take first watch, and heads forward a good eighth of a mile ahead, "If anyone or anything is heading from that direction, I can get back to warn everyone else with time to spare."

Deslyon sits drowsily near the fire, head propped up against the wheel of the cart. Elliot sits beside him, also near sleep.

(Has anyone seen or heard from Spritedude in a while? Just asking.)

(Looks like you can just take your time and read all of the posts you missed, Spritedude)

Cysma had gone over to Elliot and Deslyon, still wide awake, and listening carefully to his surroundings if anyone else was there.

"Are either of you still awake? There is something I must speak to you about." He said to them quietly. "It's about Zerra...she may have the potential to wind up like the friend of the other party."

He kneeled down closer to them.

"Just thought that I would get this out: as I can detect evil, I recently felt a dark presence radiating from Zerra. I know not why, but I must ask of you that all of us keep an eye on her for fear of what might happen."

(I assume tala was left out of the conversation for the time being,)

"Well, men, I'm off if you need someone to take over the watch, shake me in six hours and not a moment earlier. I'm going to go meditate now."

*Spreads his red cloak on the ground and pulls his wide brimmed hat over his eyes*

"Until the sun rises."

*Closes his eyes and is lost in meditation*

(meditation is the same as sleeping for elves, just shorter)

(Alright I'm-)

Deslyon awoke briefly from a small nap he took in the night, hearing Cysma approach him and Elliot.

After he heard the eerie news, he sat there in place for a few moments not to alert anyone else of Cysma's interesting observation. He managed to refrain from glancing at Zerra as well. He nodded his head to aknowledge what Cysma had told them in fear arousing suspicion.

"Thank you" he replied.

It appeared that the party was not as safe as he had anticipated. Or perhaps it was the paranoia that viciously spread amongst the members of the group once they set their eyes on the town that morning.

He closed his eyes as he thought about each of his comrades. For one, he still did not trust the two elves in the group, especially the greedy thief that had left them earlier. The centaur he did not have any particular reason to trust, but his strength would prove vital in battle. The dwarf and gnome abilities and worthless quarreling did not impress him. Lastly, Zerra as Cysma pointed out may be a threat, but what made Cysma more trustworthy than Zerra? Because he was a paladin? What about the rest of the group? They seemed to have good intentions. But doesn’t everyone always seem to have good intentions?

"Look at me now, completely riled up by the whole town incident and more paranoid than ever. As long as I go with the flow of things, I should be alright."

He took a deep yawn and shifted his body against the wheel once more, to attempt to find any kind of comfort through the second rough night he would go through.
