RPG's are the best game ever why cant there be more of them. Another reason they are the best is b/c you get your moneys worth in play time.

RPGs are good; a few years ago I went on an RPG glut and played as many RPGs as I could find. There's a recent trend, though, of incorporating all of the RPG stuff into other genres like FPS and platformers, so I don't think there's any shortage of the RPG feel. 'Course, the traditional RPG is pretty scarce nowadays; turn-based 2D sprites just aren't being made any more.

I have to disagree with the 'long play time' arguement though; I would rather play some short and sweet RPGs (Threads of Fate, as an example) than some of the long and crappy games I've played. A lot of the time spent in those long games are filler, anyways (run around in circles! kill the same enemy again!), just so they can write "40+ hours of gaming fun!" on the back of the box. A lot of other game genres have excellent replayability, I'm thinking sh'mups (or fighter games with friends), unlike some RPGs which have the "play it once, you got everything" sort of vibe.

Get a DS instead, you can play GBA games and DS games. I highly recommend Golden Sun if you are to get a GBA or DS.

RPGs are indeed my favorite genre as of late. Instead of blood, numbers splash out of the characters!
I prefer the traditional RPGs, as I'm always excited when I get to a new town and buy the newest equipment available and test it out at the next dungeon. Of course, new systems are usually welcome...

Some of the best RPGs are SNES ones, and I'm glad to see several of them being remade for the GBA.

What a shame that RPGs on the N64 were virtually non-existant. The only ones I know of are Quest 64, which had too cumbersome a system to be much fun, and the much better by comparison Paper Mario.

Luckily, there's about 10 times as many RPGs available on Gamecube, which is better than Xbox at the very least. But even the few that are there are really good! Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos...

I'm planning on making a few traditional RPGs as my dream job, so now I'm practicing with whatever RPG Maker programs I can find.

I've always wanted a PS2 because there are so many RPGs for that, and I could play the console RPG Maker trilogy...

XBox has 'Morrowind', which is better than most RPGs. If you need more than that, then there is no pleasing you. And you're probably the devil.

My fave RPG these days is probably 'Oblivion', which I've been playing at every opportunity since I snagged an XBox360 two weeks ago. Aside from that, there's the excellent 'Metal Saga' (which got horrible reviews, apparently from gaming journos who hate fun and solid gameplay in their RPGs).

Last RPG I played was Final Fantasy IV Advance. Great game on the SNES, this version has issues.

RPGs are a strange case; if the designers know what they're doing they can be very interesting to play (Final Fantasy VI, Sweet Home), but if done incorrectly they're complete bores (Phantasy Star III) or frustrations (can't name anything specific off the top of my head, but I'm thinking a game where you get into a battle every few steps, and those battles consist of constantly selecting "Attack").

Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there!

^ I'm thinking Septerra Core as the worst example of bores. If you encounter a group of enemies, a loading dialog pops up and you wait for the battle to begin. And the battles are as slow as molassas; you wait for your three bars to charge up, and the attacks are jerkily slow to perform. It's a missing liver to an otherwise okay RPG.

I like all kinds of rpg's. Whether they're basic turn-based(FF1), more advanced turn-based(Quest 64), or even Hack&Slash(Shining Soul/Zelda games).

I've played a fair ammount of them, and while many of the Final Fantasy titles are quite excellent, I don't mind much more simple games like Quest 64 or Shining Soul. Not much storyline, but fun as heck. Shining Soul just needed more item space...or maybe I'm too protective?

Amongst all the rpg's, the only one I was ever dissapointed in is Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. Crappy graphics(worse than Quest 64), laggy, and just too wierd. While I don't LIKE FF7, I was not dissapointed in it at all. It is an excellent game, just not for me. It is quite overrated...

I'm more interested in short and sweet rpgs at the moment but back in the day I loved just spending days roaming the landscapes of many a large rpg and talking to everyone I met (including any barrels, pots or other similarly shaped objects).

^ Heh, yeah. I like that too; I have a compulsion to see every single line of text in an RPG sometimes. And you just feel good if you found treasure in a garbage can or something like that.

In an RPG I made, I tried to make as many objects examinable as possible; books, barrels, signs, potted plants, etc. You'd think I'd run out of crap to say after a while, but you'd be surprised the various things you can say about stuff randomly scattered about a room.
