I just heard "Radical Dreamers" for the first time

Crono Cross was an okay game, but I don't think it was a great game. Eventually, it became too slow, battles became a chore, and kind of annoying if I happen to miss a lot. I didn't even know there were double techs because there are only, like, three of them. In a cast of 43 party members, I don't really remember liking any of them. Still, it's playable.

The only real "that was cool" part (aside from the FMVs) was the Radical Dreamers part, when they did that performance. And when you introduce party members to their alternate universe versions; that's kind of fun to watch.

Chrono Cross was like the Final Fantasy VII of the Chrono series. I.E. it was a major dissapointment, considering the game that preceeded it was legendary. -CSM

Well I'm going to be playing FFVII soon anyway, and if I can bite down and play that despite my inhibitions I can do this. I mean, damnation, this music is wonderful.

It would be the first time on record I bought a game for the music alone.

The best part of CC is definitely the music. The soundtract has to be Yasunori Mitsuda's best. (In fact, it's because of CC that made me realize that Mitsuda is a hell of a lot better composer than Nobuo Uematsu.)

I would definitely recommend buying the soundtrack, if you haven't already.

If you like the CC music, I'd also recommend the Xenogears soundtrack, which is more of his excellence.

And if you like Radical Dreamers, wait until you hear Time's Scar, the intro song. It's breathtaking.

But yeah, CC as a game is ok, but basically just a disappointment compared to CT. The only person who would ever disagree with that is Bolt, heh.

But yeah, I love Yasunori Mitsuda.-jay

And I like the guy as much as anybody, Time's Scar is great, but calling him out-and-out better than Uematsu is bordering on fightin' words.

Don't get me wrong, I like Uematsu's work too. I own most of the FF soundtracks. And I think he was at his best with FF8. The FF8 soundtrack is near the top of my list of favorite soundtracks. And the Black Mages are great.

But...

After playing many, many, MANY Square games, I have to say that Mitsuda is simply the best. Simply because of his work in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenogears.

I donno, it just seems like Mitsuda's soundtracks sound so much more complete and inspired.

Uematsu has made some great songs, but many of his soundtracks have been rather blah. FF9 was forgetable. FF10 was tame (although that wasn't entirely him). FF7 was alright (with a couple great songs, like One Wing Angel). FF6 was great though, I'd rank it right behind FF8's soundtrack. And FF4 and 5 had some good stuff. But nothing as complete as Mitsuda's three.

Personally, I just enjoy Mitsuda's work so much more overall. I could listen to his stuff non-stop. I even bought some of his non-video game soundtracks, and they're great.-jay

Uematsu writes better scores, but Mitsuda's individual tracks are better. The FF games have the best scores, but my two favorite songs from video games are "World Revolution" and "To Far Away Times." -CSM
