Here's what we do: simply state what you think would make an RPG perfect.

Things that I say: It should have a great storyline.
It should have a decent and strategic vbattle system, and preferably not an ATB.
It should have less than 15 playable characters, to leave room for character developement.
It should have a bunch of minigames, or something to alter gameplay every once in a while (like the 1st person dungeons in Phantasy Star).

That's all I can think think of off the top of my head.

-A Genius (RPGs rule, when done correctly. Only a few companies can do them correctly however.)

Characters: A total of nine characters is the maximum. Even then 1 most be killed off. Anything more than 9 will create problems with character developement.

Magic: The system should not be overly complex. The best system would be the simple learning system where after earning a number of points from boss battles a character will learn a spell. Summons are optional. But they shouldn't take more than 15 seconds.

Story: Overly complex stories can overwhelm the player. Or bore them. Whichever. Simple with a little complexity is the best formula. However the stroy shouldn't sag at any point. Not even at the end game.

thats all I have so far.
