BABY BABY, DA DANA DA DA DANA DA DAAA Gender: Posts: 6,394 Thanks: 1,994 Thanked 657 Times in 492 Posts | Tales of Games ...There have probably been a million threads like this, but OH WELL. I wanna talk about ToS and TotA, blast it. :P ANYWAY. This here place is a thread where we can discuss the awesome games of the Tales of series... I, being a horrible person, have only played three games from this series, and have beaten two... one of which is my FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME. ![]() The three games I have played: 1. Tales of Legendia. Played about a half hour before I got sick and tired of the mazelike dungeons with literally ONE puzzle per dungeon. Also, I'd watched my sister beat it before, and I HATE the characters for the most part. That part when Senel tells Shirley why she shouldn't destroy the world, she says, "Thank you, Senel. With those words engraved in my heart, I shall now fulfill my destiny." I FLIPPIN HATE HER. SHE CAN DIE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY FOR ALL I CARE. 2. Tales of the Abyss. Beat it... a truly great game. It has that traditional Tales Of feel, with a deep storyline, loveable characters, and trillions of plot-twists. The 'free-run' system is made of win, and it is a fun, awesome, kickass game. The graphics are awesome as well, and I just LOVE IT. the first time Van revealed himself as being so horribly cruel and evil, I was like... OMG. The game made me feel the way Luke must have after Van used him... except I was able to accept the fact, unlike Mr. Hardheaded Hero. ...My sister and I once got into a 20-minute long argument about whether Luke looks better with long or short hair. I said short, she said long... XD 3. Tales of Symphonia. This is my hands-down favorite game of all time. I love it for pretty much the same reasons as Abyss, and also... I love how you can alter the ending depending on who you speak to in Flanoir. This really gets you to know all of the characters, and it also gives the game awesome replay value. I have beaten this game three different times, and am in my fourth playthrough... Another thing that gives this game such great replay value is the option of the 'Hard Path', which allows you to get Sheena earlier. Instead of riding the Izoold boat to Palmacosta, you walk to Hima and do the stuff up there before even entering Palmacosta. The scenes are much funnier with Sheena around, especially if you've already beaten the game once. --- Also, for any of you who have heard any of my rants about other video games, you'll know that a huge part of me is a musician... so when I play a video game, the music has a HUGE effect on me. The soundtracks of both Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia were awesome, in my opinion. (Sheena's/Summon Spirit's battle music was, quite simply, AWESOME.) ANYWAY. I could go on for another twenty minutes about these games, but I figure it's best to let other people speak... CARE TO SHARE ABOUT TALES OF GAMES?? ![]() |

Tales of Symphonia is kind of cliché at times, but with characters like Zelos and Presea, it's simply amazing. Tales of Eternia is also pretty fun. The weapon system is nice, being able to choose between swords, spears, and axes for Reid, choosing which is a good option (Swords for all average, pole arms for stabby-stabby, and axes for just hacking the hell out of your enemies). Shame that all "official" portrayals of Reid have him with a sword, despite the fact that Demon Hammer is more suited for the axe. I have yet to play Legendia. Eh. And I have yet to get far in Phantasia. It will have to be the SNES translation unless there is a translated PSX ISO. |

However, when it does so it adds a plot twist or a character or SOMETHING that turns that cliche into something AMAZING. ...Or at least that's what I think. It seems that when it gets too cliche'd, it adds a twist later that just makes that cliche its own. ...yeah, I'm biased. What of it. :P |

However... I CANNOT stand Abyss. That game itself was an abyss...good god. And we're playing through Legendia now and aren't too impressed. I think Namco has been losing its touch. |

| Empty Mage | I've only played Symphonia. Cliche, but badass. I've played it two times, one time I went for Kratos, the other time Zelos. My party was usually Lloyd, Genis, Raine and Zelos/Kratos. |

I plan to do Regal next then get Colette out of the way, and save the two best... first Kratos, then Zelos... for last. Yes, I plan to play it eight times. Why? Because I frickin' love it THAT MUCH. ![]() ...Mania mode is HARD. I'm in Triet right now, and the 3 desians there have killed me at LEAST six times by now. My computer Genis is an idiot... >< |

Legendia wasn't really anything special. Although apparently Tempest in Japan was far worse. (All I know is that it's only about 10 hours long and has no grade shop so therefore minimal replay value) And Shirley's useless when she finally does join - At least until the very end of the game if she learns Tidal Wave. I absolutely loved Abyss. Aside from Natalia using items when I tell her NOT to or melees not being able to run away from a mystic arte it had some rather good AI. It needs improvement in some areas though, like Natalia's voice which I found kind of too high-pitched. (And her battle cries sounded like she stepped on something sharp or something.) Another thing that sort of bothers me is that Luke sounds liek he's saying "Tick Tock Tick Tock" if you like make him attack while swinging the sword upwards. Another thing I'd have liked is To see Dist the Runny using that Mystic Arte cut-in people found. I am fully aware Luke is whiny and matures, but I think that's actually somewhat realistic. I always found it strange how someone annoying whiny dude matures instantly and never reverts to his old habits of whining, although not as bad as it was originally. Same with the "Reformed villains" (Except for Tatjana of Arc the lad 4) who always change their ways and become good. I also liked the role reversal of the boy being the whiny one and not the girl. Same with how Tear can actually defend herself unlike a specific Colette Brunel. Other than Mieu, Ion, and Natalia the voice acting was also very well done. Tear and Anise have the best U.S. Voices. (But having even Natalia's voice actress would have been an improvement over that squeal that was Anise's Japanese VA. D: ) one thing I also liked was That Ion and Sync as well as Asch and Luke had teh same voice actors. they WERE replicas of each other after all. IMO what Tales really needs to do less of is trying to make that "The hero is not exactly evil". Yes it was a very good twist that made Dhaos memorable - Great job Namco. Now stop using it before Dhaos becomes a stock character.

Abyss has co-op but only with two-players. (I'm sure that the rest of the ones on PS2/whatever have two-player co-op) ...BUT, Symphonia has four-player Co-Op. IMO that was a really nice feature for those of you who have 3 players willing to play. four players can score soem pretty nice combos with Lloyd and Regal + 2 others. (Dunno we usually had Genis and Raine be the other 2.) |

BABY BABY, DA DANA DA DA DANA DA DAAA Gender: Posts: 6,394 Thanks: 1,994 Thanked 657 Times in 492 Posts | ^ I once fought Abyssion with me as Raine, a ten-year-old as Lloyd, and a seven-year-old as Genis. Our computer was Sheena. ... ToS is a great game... it's really fun single, but I have to say that playing with a group full of people at once is AWESOMELY FANTASTICALLY UBERNESS FUN. It's INSANITY... with everyone shouting out battle cries and trying not to cuss in front of the children. XD ... wait. Abyss has two-player?? SRSLY??!! That is awesome. I need to go find my sister now... ![]() ...yes, one reason I really liked the whole Tear/Luke scenario was the situation was REVERSED. No damsel in distress... she's a kickass soldier, while Luke is the ignorant whiny brat. (Well, the ignorance isn't his fault... but still.) Oh, and not to mention that THIS HAPPENS AT THE GAME'S VERY END SO IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T READ Tear actually ADMITS that she loves Luke. That's really rare in games, and I really like it for some reasons. Obviously her feelings must be really strong for a tough woman like herself to admit that. ![]() ...Colette can be EXTREMELY annoying and defenseless at times, but you do have to admit that she's strong. She can be obnoxious, but she also can be adorable-sometimes-and also quite strong internally. (The same cannot be said about her exterior without Angel techniques. ZOMG LETS THROW OUR FRISBEE AT THE ENEMY AND SEE IF THEY DIE!!!1!111) |

BABY BABY, DA DANA DA DA DANA DA DAAA Gender: Posts: 6,394 Thanks: 1,994 Thanked 657 Times in 492 Posts | Oh, and also, the Mystic Artes were nice in Abyss. For Tales of Symphonia, the only characters with special attacks were Genis and Lloyd, and you had to do a crapload of stuff to get them. The biggest reason I'm so bent over Symphonia is, well, nostalgia, and as I've already mentioned, the eight different endings. I can't freaking WAIT to do Zelos's ending... it's amazing that I've played this game thrice and counting, but he's still a complete mystery to me. HOW AWESOME.... there are STILL spoilers in this game for me!! ![]() |

BABY BABY, DA DANA DA DA DANA DA DAAA Gender: Posts: 6,394 Thanks: 1,994 Thanked 657 Times in 492 Posts | Why don't you want to play ToS? Well, if you don't want to play that one... ( ) play Abyss.Well, I've heard great things about Phantasia, too.... just haven't played it meself. But seriously, don't play Legendia. It's tedious, obnoxious as hell, and just GAAH. So, since you don't want to play ToS, I suggest Abyss, and I'm sure others will give you their own opinions. |

...but the same can't be said about Nebilim in Tales of the Abyss. On like unknown mode she has two million health. (And like 320,000 in regular) And if you aren't leveled enough, you'll be dealing one damage. Also, the U.S. Version of Tales of the Abyss actually got some stuff added to it, unlike stupid Japan which always gets the Final mix stuff or Tales of Symphonia PS2 version with extras! (But then again, Nintendo paid for the translation and voice acting, didn't they?) The U.S. version of Nebilim is actually harder - Instead ofj ust having Time Stop and Big Bang, she has like seven. Including Fragmented End, which is usually instant doom right there. (But Indignation I've seen it hit for 31k. O_o)

As well, not only do all of the characters now have second Mystic Artes, Luke's Radiant Howl has Ion helping him as well as Tear having an extension of Fortune's Arc. |

(I didn't have the patience to get Mieu Fire 2 and get all of the weapons. I plan to do that next playthrough) And, CSM, I'm cool with your opinion and not wanting to play ToS and all... but could you at least explain why you don't want to play it? I'm nosy and obnoxious and obsessed with this game, so I want to know. ![]() |
