It's very sensible, especially from an economic standpoint. And remember, I'm pretty damn broke myself. -CSM

12 went the route of screwing up turn-based battles with the Tales of style(I love the Tales of games, but I like them seperate.)

Also, the fact that there are no differences amongst gameplay in characters(you make their class yourself) makes it completely ununique. That bores me. Like I said, the last main game I liked is X. 13 might be a bit better, if it went back to turn-based battles.(even the guage system is still somewhat turn-based)

^Tales of style indicates that you are required to actually push buttons to win battles.

^Not to mention that if you look at the characters, you realize that while you can specialize anyone to any class, there are obvious hints as to which classes work best for certain characters. Basch is clearly meant to be a tank, and Penelo a mage - while you can switch it up, it's not practical to go through the game unlocking ALL the licenses bit by bit, and only focus on one area - Penelo and Ashe definitely have more magic buffs early on because they are the best casters, and Basch/Balthier/Vaan have strength buffs because as they level, that's where their abilities lie.

If you purposefully make them all the same, then yeah, it will be sort of 'ununique' - the game is most effective if you don't though.

(Never mind the fact that, while in battle, it's also impractical to have everyone play the same role - if you have three hard hitters and no healers, you won't make it very far. Same goes for if you only have magic users. It's all about strategy.)

^Considering how easy it is to get every character every license, this is only really done through equipment (and I see what you mean considering each type of armor increases an extra stat). -CSM

I liked the Gambits for Final Fantasy XII. They really made the allies do what you wanted them too even if I did like how Tales of Vesperia mixed up attacks as opposed to just spamming Firaja when the enemies are weak to fire.

And I didn't have anything like this happen...

Will: A little experiment...FLAME BLADE!
*uses flame blade on a stupid fire elemental...*
Will: Hmmm that didnt' work, here use this! FLAME BLADE!
*headdesks and shuts off all the fire spells...then forgets to turn them back on*

But you do know that if you have enough patience to slog through the worst thing Square ever made other than Tidus, you can do that with Final Fantasy X too, right? I taught Rikku white magic and surprise surprise...I had no need for Yuna to heal. And then I summon the aeons and...surprise surprise, Lulu winds up joining the Kimarhi and Wakka Bench unless I want to use their overdrives. (Which is a shame since Lulu is my favourite character in that game.) The only time I felt Lulu actually really was invaluble was when I machine-gun-spammed Blizzaga on Seymour omnis.

Bravo, I agree completely.

^ Lulu wasn't too bad, certainly not bad enough to be paired with ol' Kimarhi. Even his overdrive was crap, IRC.

Dude, Kimarhi was awesome. You could customize him from the beginning - actually use him, and you have a thief long before you even encounter Rikku and have her join your party. You could make him a white mage for when Yuna was not available due to the story (which actually happens a lot, if you think about it), or have him follow Auron and be a completely badass hard-hitter. And if you actually used Lancer on all the enemies you encountered from the beginning and had him learn abilities, his overdrive could literally be any special attack - perfect for buffing your party with protective magic and stats early on in the game when facing tough boss battles.

Hm, well, to be honest, I neglected him from the get-go due to unreasonable hatred. So I suppose he could be used well, but I just never needed him.

Actually, Tidus was one of the BAD aspects of that game, along with Yuna. Lulu and Wakka were two of my favorite characters in that game.

I actually sent Kimahri into Rikku's section as ZG did and it worked wonders, even AFTER Rikku joined. Stealing is mandatory and painful and having a second Thief early (plus getting Bomb Fragments is a big pain if you have to wait until late in the game to do it). I also snuck Yuna into Rikku's section to nab Steal before she finished her own section, thus having three early Thieves.

Plus, during the fight between Kimahri and Biran and Yenke, having Kimahri with Steal allows you to horde Level 3 Key Spheres LONG before they become readily available.

Auron was, of course, the REAL best character in that game and the star of it. And Wakka was definitely the most powerful offensively. -CSM

^I said the worst thing square made, implying that the unintuitive Sphere Grid was in the same league as Tidus.

Gimme stupid Algus/Argath over that whiner any day.

^Me too!

To be fair, Yuna's character - actually amazing, if you analyze her (I'll do that for you if you need me to ). It was her voice actress that was so bad. If you think about it, Yuna really was one of the strongest female leads -

Spoiler Below
I mean, the entire point of her journey is to die for her people and not once does she complain; the fact that she goes so far to marry Seymour to make the people happy/try to sandbag him into a sending is amazing. But I digress.

Tidus...no. He did grow as a character, but not enough to redeem his early ****tiness.
