It's the gameplay that tends to be a deal breaker. FF9, however, is great on both fronts. I dare say that FF9 has the best skill learning system of all games. |

I beat FFVIII earlier today, and I think I can easily say it was better the second time through. A truly awesome game with some awesome characters, awesome storyline (although it wasn't without it's wtf moments), and probably one of the best soundtracks in any Final Fantasy game. Some specific notes about the game (spoilered for those of you who haven't beaten it, if any): - I nominate Lion Heart as the most game-breaking special move in any game, ever. - Pandemona and Doomtrain had some of the coolest summon designs in any FF game. - Killing Tonberries for hours to get the Tonberry summon was no fun at all. - DAMN IT, ZELL, WHY DO YOUR DRAWS ALWAYS FAIL? - I loved the space scene. Very heartwarming. - What I hated even more than killing Tonberries was spending two Save Point-less hours descending to the bottom of the ocean to get the Eden summon, all the while fighting inescapable battles with the toughest enemies in the game every three-to-five steps. By the time I got Diablos to learn Enc-None, I had already beaten Ultima Weapon. Crap. - The time compression sequence in Disc Four (in which you battle the various sorceresses, emerge at Edea's House and then discover Ultimecia's castle) is one of the most mind****ing sequences in any game I've ever played. - Due to the fact that I was about 10 or 11 the first time I played the game, I never really picked up any of the hints that Laguna and Raine were Squall's parents, but now... wow. - Did I mention the epic soundtrack? I'd give the game an A. Tomorrow, I'll start FFIX. Woot! __________________ This is a signature. |

Oh well, I'll start playing as soon as I get off da compoota. I can already hear the delicious battle theme in my head. __________________ This is a signature. |

A bit more than half way through Disc I now. Also, my brother got FFXII for Christmas. Sweet, now I don't have to dig it up on Amazon. __________________ This is a signature. |

I don't think I'm gonna replay it though considering on my most recent playthrough I made it to level 99 and doing everything except seeing Black Hole.....took me 260+ long hours. -CSM |

Everything from now on is new to me (except the parts I saw my sister play). Stupid college, slowing me down. This game's pretty sweet, and has probably the best ability learning system in any FF game. __________________ This is a signature. |

| Gunjinkeeper | ^Ah, the desert palace. When I was 12 (I think), I was stuck there for some three months because I made the mistake of putting all of my strongest characters on the team that I sent to investigate that one dungeon. I got thoroughly pwned almost consistently from that point forward because all that was left were the goddamn mages and the palace itself was full of powerful enemies. I should also note that I was horrible at leveling up back then, so I mostly got my ass kicked up and down the place. Urgh. Every playthrough since then has been a totally different story, thank god. ![]() |

I normally like to have a party of Zidane, Steiner, Amarant, and then throw in Quina to serve as my 'healer', so I can leave Freya behind to still help the mages physically attack and buff them. Thankfully, both Freya and Quina are flexible when it comes to relying on physical and magic attacks. Also, Desert Palace always creeped me out as a kid. The combination of the music and gargoyle architecture *shudders*. Also, LOVE the ability system. It's by far my favorite, too. ![]() |

| Goku lives on the Sun | I may be playing through and hopefully beating FF7 soon. Just for the sake of beating it really, since I kind of lost interest in it. |

Oh well, I've gotten past it now. WHAT PLOT TWISTS LIE AHEAD WHICH HAVEN'T ALREADY BEEN SPOILED FOR ME? __________________ This is a signature. |

I played a rom of it years ago and I recall liking all of two things about the game, those being the job system and the sound track. Now that I think about it grabbing FFV along with FFIV, and Dawn of Souls would put my Gameboy Player to great use. - You stupid dog. |

Gender: Posts: 14,845 Thanks: 839 Thanked 1,498 Times in 906 Posts | Val, I think the Desert Palace was the one with the more difficult puzzles - Oeilvert was mostly just finding things in the correct order, but the Desert palace was a bit more complex (especially since you didn't necessarily have to solve all the puzzles and retrieve the bloodstones, but in doing so, you made the boss weaker the more you deactivated). I am both sad and happy to report that I've played the game enough times to have memorized all of the puzzles within the palace....yay? I'm going with yay. |

Oh, I loved it too. The music was badass, and it's a cool part of the game. It just always used to creep me out. ![]() (Also, the Cid as a Frog mini game is still, to this day, one of the more hilarious FF moments, IMO). | |
